What does selling a company for 1.3 billion dollars actually feel like? Haroon's answer: "Whatever chase I had in me as an entrepreneur, I had accomplished. I felt like unicorn was enough. I'm okay if I never start another company again." Nobody prepares founders for the box getting checked. Startup culture is built for the chase: the next round, the next company, the next mountain. It has a thousand answers for the climb and nothing for what happens when you arrive. So we asked him. Turns out you only learn what was actually driving you after the chase ends. Most founders never get there. Full conversation with Haroon on YouTube & Spotify.

Does selling your company for $1.3 billion change you? I asked Haroon what selling his company did to this faith. "You don’t technically earn or deserve any of what you’re given. That’s just what’s been written for you… If you’re not given much at all then you’re tested with poverty. If you’re given a lot, it’s a much more difficult test so what are you going to do with it?" The internet’s picture of a billionaire is someone who won and stopped answering to anything. Haroon’s picture is someone who now answers for more. Full conversation with Haroon on YouTube and Spotify.

Farza Majeed built buildspace into one of the most followed builder communities on the internet. Hundreds of thousands of students later, he shut the whole thing down very publicly. Then he did nothing for six months. He traveled across Morocco, Pakistan, and Europe. Sat in mosques and churches for entire days. And realized he’d been optimizing his entire life around a career built on personal unhappiness. He’s since started building one of the most promising consumer AI companies in the space - with a discipline he didn’t have before. Conversation with Farza 🇵🇰🇺🇸, dropping Wednesday.

We just signed the lease on our new Alif HQ. It's 8,000 sq. ft., smack in the heart of San Francisco. I'll be honest - today, it's too much space for just our team + portfolio. So we're opening it up to the ecosystem, just in time for Ramadan. Apply for a desk:

Today, we're announcing Alif ١. It's a 5-week program to fast-track the most talented Muslim founders across the world into Silicon Valley. There was a lot to learn from Batch 0 — we really were building the plane as we were flying it. But as we made our way to Demo Day, it quickly became clear what made Alif special: It was the people. It was throwing a bunch of founders into an office together and watching them build relationships that would last a lifetime. It was watching them celebrate each others' wins as if it was their own. It was sitting in the room as they pitched to best VC's in the industry, while some of them had previously never even spoken to one. That's why, for this next program, we're doubling down on the people. Because it's hard enough to build something great. But to build something great alone? That feels impossible. So if you're a Muslim founder working on a big idea, we want to be your first believer. Alif ١ will kick off on December 1st. Applications are now open: Alif Bismillah
