When I heard Senator Kevin Cramer say, "The Christians in Nigeria today are probably feeling pretty good about Donald Trump's position", I decided I had to let him understand a few things. The Halifax International Security Forum's audience certainly enjoyed this one.

I saw Bella Shmurda at the Victoria Island, Lagos, Adidas store yesterday and noticed a couple of things. Remind me to come to these later. I went window shopping at the Adidas store. I enjoyed the experience. After comparing prices, I realised it’s better for everyone (the shopper, the store and the local economy) that we can pay for these top of the range products in Naira. On Bella Shmurda, a family man to the core. I’d ordinarily ignore a celebrity because I don’t like stress, but I had to say hello to him, shook hands like gentlemen. I also noticed that the music switched to his sound whilst he was in the store. Matter of fact, I noticed the music switch before I realised Bella was in the store. I thought that was smooth and smart.

I was the only African representation during this Taipei Forum. I also realised Nigeria had not been in the conversation whatsoever, and this was the closing session. So, I thought, what would a younger Nuhu Ribadu do? What corncept would my President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have me add to my introduction of the Vice President of Taiwan, Hsiao Bi-khim, whilst maintaining focus on her? Easy. I just had to let it be known, as usual, "...from Nigeria." I'd have called myself Ikenna Oguguo, Uba Sani, Abu Jimoh, Jide Jacobs, Musa Usman, Olumide Soyombo or even Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones... I just needed it to be known, this brother? He from NIGERIA. Correct me if I am right!

"I am spoking. Let me spoke." I enjoyed hearing that and all the vibe. About 15 years ago, Simi Fajemirokun-Ajayi saw me speaking on TV. She knew Fola Aina at the time who told her we had attended the same secondary school, so he could connect us. She has been my sister ever since. And in that time, I have watched her intervene at scale for party and country. I hope she is trusted to represent her constituency at the National Assembly. She is a world class leader.

I have been following the conversation around Tosin Eniolorunda’s speech at The Platform. Though he spoke those words four days ago, my position on his stand was already on record, captured in this podcast weeks before. As a country, we must never shy away from the mirror, collectively and individually. Denial only takes you farther from the solution. Credit to POJU OYEMADE for enabling conversations that matter.

There are the obvious ones but I have learned to focus more on some of the subtle elements of Tinubu’s persona. This informed my position on him as ‘King of the long game’ in 2015, right after he’d just lost the Senate Presidency. There is the other often ignored bit; his willingness to quickly take a stand for his people when the moment calls for it. He doesn’t feign blindness at such times or keep his intervention to a private message of support. Take this direct position on Nuhu Ribadu . Many leaders, because they can’t even look past themselves, wouldn’t have noticed that one of their own needed them to take a public stand for them. This was needed and it wasn’t something anyone could ask for. It’s just one of Tinubu’s ways of paying loyalty downwards. That’s something quite rare amidst these politicians, especially the ones who are quick to render lectures on the subject matter. They know to expect loyalty, they just have no clue it’s a bi-directional concept. Tinubu embodies an understanding of loyalty in its entirety.
