One of the biggest humiliations I can remember in football history was when Luis Suárez refused to shake Patrice Evra’s hand before the match… Liverpool lost 2-1. Then Evra made sure the final whistle hurt even more by celebrating right in Suárez’s face as United players lifted the moment in front of him. With the score still 0-0, Carlos Tévez headed Argentina into the lead after receiving the ball while clearly offside. Replays shown inside the stadium made the mistake obvious to everyone, yet after discussions between the referee and assistant referee, the goal was still allowed to stand. That decision completely changed the game. Mexico’s players were furious, fans were left stunned, and Argentina went on to win 3-1 to eliminate El Tri. While Argentina deserved credit for their overall performance, many still believe the illegal opening goal shifted the momentum and changed the course of the match.
