In Mogadishu, the presence of the Turkish flag is impossible to miss. It can be seen on Bajaj taxis, painted on city walls, displayed at schools and universities, and in many public places across the capital. In some areas, the Turkish flag even appears more visible than the Somali flag itself. This reflects the unusually strong admiration that many Somalis have for Turkey. Over the years, Turkey has earned a special place in the hearts of many people through its engagement and support in Somalia. Yet, many Somali politicians seem to overlook or misunderstand these public sentiments. They often fail to recognize just how deeply Turkey is appreciated by ordinary Somalis and how strong the emotional connection has become between the two peoples.

BREAKING | SOMALIA The Somali National Army has captured a strategic town controlling three major highways linking Lower Shabelle, Bay, and Middle Juba. For years, this junction functioned as the main transportation hub for the region. Whoever held it controlled movement between three states—people, goods, and supply lines. Until now, that control belonged to al-Shabaab. Neither the Somali Army nor the African Union had ever taken this position since the war began 18 years ago. This capture breaks a central pillar of al-Shabaab’s regional control. It cuts their mobility, fractures their logistics, and isolates their fighters. The balance on the ground is shifting, and for the first time in nearly two decades, al-Shabaab is losing the roads that kept it alive Villa Somalia OPM Somalia 🇸🇴 U.S. Embassy Mogadishu, Somalia U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs UK in Somalia🇬🇧🇸🇴 EU Delegation Somalia UNTMIS Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Sharif Sheikh Ahmed MP Dr Abdillahi Hashi Abib Abdirahman Abdishakur Hassan Ali Khaire Mohamed Hussein Roble BBC News (UK) CNN Reuters The Associated Press Al Jazeera English The New York Times The Guardian Bloomberg Financial Times Voice of America @SkyNewst FRANCE 24 English DW News NPR ABC News CBS News MSNBC POLITICO Axios Anadolu English CGTN South China Morning Post The Times and The Sunday Times The Washington Post New York Post BNO News The Independent Newsweek HuffPost AFP News Agency

From Mogadishu to Beledweyne by land, from Mogadishu to Baidoa, and from Mogadishu to Jilib, the headquarters of Al-Shabaab, the momentum is clear: thanks to air support from the Turkeyn army and the United States forces, Somali boys are pushing forward on the ground while also learning and mastering tactical skills in drone warfare; according to regional intelligence agencies, including those in Ethiopia and Kenya, around 45% of Al-Shabaab fighters currently come from outside Somalia, showing that Al-Shabaab is not only a danger to Somalia but a threat to the wider world, with recruitment drastically increasing when Israel signals recognition of part of Somalia, also known as "Somaliland."

The Constitution of Somaliland does not permit anything that contradicts the Islamic faith. If the agreement the government has entered into with Israel harms Islam, it will be addressed. — Former Somaliland President Muse Bihi. Bihi was among Somalia’s finest Air Force pilots in the 1970s–80s, defending a united republic from the sky. In 1991, the same man landed on the opposite runway—declaring secession from Somalia

Many Somali social media influencers constantly claim that the Somali National Army units trained by Türkiye come from only one clan. But reality tells a different story. Here are two Somali soldiers who graduated from the Turkish Military Academy — one from Laascaanood in the North Eastern regions of Somalia, and another, Mubaarak, from South West State. The picture speaks louder than the noise online. The Turkish-trained Somali forces are drawing recruits from different parts of the country, not from a single community. In a nation long divided by clan lines, institutions like military academies are slowly creating something Somalia has struggled to build for decades: a professional national identity. The internet loves simple narratives. Reality is usually more complicated — and more interesting.

A Somali national conducting a search and destroy mission against Al Shabab has observed that they have changed their tactics, operating in groups of five or four to demonstrate their power. They believe that resistance will eventually lead to overcoming the Somali people. However, the Somali army has adopted drone technology for mapping and surveillance, giving them a decisive advantage. The mapping drones regularly locate Al Shabab hideouts, including underground food storage and resource caches. The Somali army destroys these food and water supplies, significantly weakening the enemy. By leveraging technological warfare, the Somali army increases its chances

Forged in discipline at the General Gordon Military Academy in Mogadishu, they now move like a quiet storm—nearly 3,000 strong. Steel and resolve travel with them: machine guns locked, armored vehicles rolling, artillery trailing like thunder behind the horizon. They depart the city not in retreat, but in purpose—destination undisclosed, mission unspoken. Where they go is not announced… but wherever they arrive, history tends to notice. Abdi Farah Juxa is intentionally instigating conflict among the Somali clans in 2024, using historical tensions to gain political power. Despite this, the majority of Somali youth, around 70%, want to move past their turbulent history. They aim to build a future based on the current political and social reality instead of dwelling on past conflicts. However, Juxa and his allies rely on clan rivalries for political advantage and use social media as a weapon to fuel discord. Somali clans have a history of engaging in conflicts for centuries, and this pattern may continue for a while. If Juxa's intention were genuinely to preserve history, a more constructive approach would be to create platforms for dialogue, featuring voices from both clans sharing their histories. Unfortunately, his current strategies risk inciting further violence through these powerful online platforms. As someone from Mogadishu, I see no conflict with residents of other cities such as Bosaso, Garoowe, Hargeysa, Las Anod, Burco, Baydhabo, and Kismayo Buuhodle. I believe that many share my perspective and focus on reconciliation and unity. Abdi Farah Juxa, having failed to lead positively in politics, is now using social media to manipulate people and rekindle painful memories of the devastating war of 1991. This war had dire consequences, and many people, including women and children, suffered. Today, the Somali people face a new challenge: the threat from Al Shabab. It is crucial that we focus on this external threat rather than reviving internal clan conflicts through social media. The advanced Turkish UAV drone, Bayraktar, has made its first appearance at the Somali Air Force’s Avisyoni Airport—a clear sign that Somalia is entering a new phase of military resurgence. This deployment marks the beginning of a serious national rearmament campaign aimed at crushing the al-Shabaab terrorist group once and for all. If deployed strategically, this cutting-edge drone technology could decisively tilt the balance of power and dismantle al-Shabaab’s grip on the country. The ripple effects will be felt beyond central Somalia—ISIS operatives hiding in the northern mountains will soon find no refuge.
