Well...Georgia is up to their usual! Tre Phelps become 1 of 7,000,000 baseball players to hit a home run, and decided to taunt the Liberty dugout, the 1st baseman, and put on a "look at me" show all the way around the bases. Then, he got tossed, and so did his coach, who is TOTALLY complicit in the way his team acts. Phelps now will have to miss the rest of this game, and either the "if" game or the 1st game of the Super Regional. I personally like bat flips when they're done out of excitement and not directed at any one person. But, when you start waving to the 1st baseman & the other team's dugout. That's ridiculous. Hopefully, Liberty has a team full of Brock Thompsons! #gopokes #okstate

This kid pitching for Alabama is special. He throws a 2500 RPM fastball, which means his ball carries and will hold the bottom of the zone, as opposed to continuing to sink. Gotta stay on the low Fastball! Which is tough, because his changeup tumbles out of the zone, and they look the same coming out of his hand. Gotta hold this game and strike late, been sayin' that all night. #gopokes #okstate

Message to Matt Quintanar, the player who slid into Aidan Meola & Texas Tech baseball (Texas Tech Baseball) as a program. Let me preface this post with some evidence of the "respect" I have had for the Texas Tech baseball program. That program has always had a "West Texas" wild & craziness/EDGE, that, TBH, I've been jealous of at times. Don't believe those words, see for yourself where at least this 1 person is coming from. I've had the opportunity to interview multiple former Red Raiders who are still playing/pitching professional baseball. Clayton Beeter Ryan Sublette Also, Kyle Robinson is still one of my favorite pitchers I've EVER watched pitch at O'Brate, and I've communicated with him, even since he's been a pro, when he was playing in Tulsa last June with Midland at the AA level. And, Matt Gardner, the former Texas Tech pitching coach, pitched at OSU, and Geoff Haxton, your PxP, grew up in Stillwater, and we are personal friends. So, I respect Tech and enjoy the rivalry. NOW, let's get into the "Nuts & Bolts." There's a difference between playing with an edge and being "dirty". There's a right way to play, and hard slides are a part of it, but that slide was insanely inappropriate, and a VERY bad look all around for an otherwise VERY good player. I honestly didn't have an issue with the chirping, because that, in my view, went two-sided, but the slide was "Busch League". And if you do that in pro ball, completely unprovoked, at least by the player you slid into, you'll only do it once. I'm not telling you anything you don't know because your brother was a pro baseball player, so I'm not reinventing the wheel with that comment. And, YOU played at Blinn, and I KNOW they didn't teach you that, and YOU will, almost assuredly, be a Pro after your time at Tech. I'm about 100% confident in that! That is, unless you don't get THAT act cleaned up. And, maybe the most disappointing part of the whole thing is that the player you slid into is an ELITE human being who has fought through MORE injuries than any College baseball player possibly EVER. And then, you have the piece of it where you actually cost your team, one of the best hitting teams in America, the chance to keep playing and come back to win the game. And, finally, as ANGRY as that play left OSU fans, YOUR OWN teammates, fans & coaches, should have come away from that infinite times more angry than any of us. That's because WE WON THE GAME, and YOU didn't. And, I'll promise you, you WEREN'T going to whip Aidan Meola & Hudson Barrett's ass, hate to break that news to you. And, to read your lips as you walked off the field, yes, that was BS, BS on YOUR part! Hope that sinks in! #gopokes #okstate

Dee Lockett took the mat at 165 in a very highly rated match against Bianci of Little Rock, who came in ranked #5. Lockett had the right leg of Bianchi for a good while on the edge of the mat off a double, got control, and got his takedown. Bianchi escaped, then Lockett hit another takedown on a move that I have no idea what it was. Can anyone help with that move? It was 6-1, Lockett had over 30 seconds of riding time, and the goal was to finish the period on top. And, he did it to take a 6-1 lead to the 2nd with 55 seconds of riding time. That was a pretty awesome job, because Bianchi was VERY active on bottom. Neither wrestler scored in the 2nd period, so the score was 6-2 moving to the 3rd, Lockett on bottom. Lockett quickly escaped to make the score 7-1 with 1:45 left in the match, which is how it ended. #gopokes #okstate

Casey Swiderski did not wrestle on Friday, so 4-Time State Champion out of Tuttle, and True Freshman, Beau Hickman got the call at 149. It was a great match as Hickman went toe to toe with Herman, who is the #23-ranked wrestler at 149. Herman hit a nice shot early in the match to get the first takedown of both that match and the dual overall. Hickman got out pretty quickly, so the score was 3-1. Herman hit another good shot, but Hickman somehow got out of it. It looked like he was going to be the one to get the points, but both wrestlers went off the mat, and neither could score for the remainder of the period, so 3-1 headed to the 2nd. Hickman started in the top position in the 2nd period and rode Herman for the entire period for 1:44 riding time. So, an escape in 44 seconds or less would tie the match. Hickman got out fast, so riding time had the match tied, next takedown wins. Herman hit a high crotch for a takedown to take a 6-2 lead, then went to work on the riding time, but Hickman got out in time to secure the riding time. A stall call was called on Herman, so the score was 6-4, with 1 point of riding time coming for Hickman with 59 seconds left, both wrestlers on their feet. Hickman shot a single, and it was a good move, but Herman blocked it, then he bled the clock. Hickman shot again, Herman countered, and that was it. 6-5, Herman won after the riding time was added, GREAT match. #gopokes #okstate

Here's a good look at Kyler Zagar from Friday afternoon's scrimmage. Zagar is a 6-1 Sophomore out of Perry who features a "centerpiece" changeup. His changeup looks just like his fastball coming out of his hand, and tumbles like crazy. If he can spot and move the fastball to parts of the zone that can't be ambushed, then tunnel that changeup off of that, he can get a LOT of outs. Fastball is a 2-seam, so everything he throws moves, and it's coming from fairly long levers, so there's a TON of deception to his delivery. You'll see 90-93 go up on the board and SWEAR that it's quite a bit hotter than that. He also features a curveball that he can "steal" strikes with, then also bury hitters on occasion. Zagar spent a year at Cowley and pitched for "Lefty", and he played for Bret Bouher at Perry, who played at OSU, so he comes from GREAT stock! #gopokes #okstate

Bryce LeBlanc got the ball on Friday and flashed some good stuff. LeBlanc recorded 4 Ks against Cowley County in the game the 2 played a couple of weeks ago, and that was in just 2 innings of work. Long levers, explosive fastball, good slider, and mixes in a changeup. 3-pitch mix with lots of movement and an execution focus. LeBlanc is originally from Lubbock but transferred in from Odessa College. 6-7 lefties with good stuff and execution focus don't just fall off trees, so super excited about the potential here. #gopokes #okstate

Oklahoma State is very lucky they were able to get a handful of their younger players to campus, and Brock Thompson is at the top of that list. That's not my opinion, that comes from folks who know a lot more about this than I do. He has the potential to have great "bat-to-ball" skills while also hitting the ball fairly consistently above 100 mph. His approach has been centered on hitting the ball hard, and hitting line drives, which still is, and will always be THE MOST successful ball off of any bat. Hard-hit Line Drives will always be the king, that will never change, and that's Brock Thompson. He has a treasure trove of tools in his bag that very few have, not an exaggeration. Again, that's coming from people who know this stuff a lot better than I do! #GoPokes #OkState

Congrats to Ethan Lund for making his College Baseball debut, and in a HUGE spot. Things weren't perfect for the 6'6 Freshman from Fishers, Indiana, but he flashed some really good stuff from the left side. This dude has great stuff, is super competitive, is already hitting in the 94 range, is 6'6, and has a big future! His coaches showed a lot of confidence in him by putting him in the position he is in today. Valuable experience! #GoPokes #OkState

Charlie Carter is one of the MOST underrated aspects of this team. The way he blocks breaking balls gives the OSU pitchers total freedom to "let loose" of their "swing and miss" breaking balls that tumble in the dirt. Here's our thoughts on him from the most recent podcast. #GoPokes #OkState Charlie Carter

Josh Ford showed off his MASSIVE skill set on Friday. Seriously, this dude is a STUD. He pulls and kicks, he leads up in the hole, he catches passes, and he doesn't miss when he has a chance to make a play. We need to figure out how to make him as big of a part of the game plan every week as he was on Friday. Super excited about his future at OSU. #GoPokes #OkState
