Shading helps create the illusion of volume, so why would animators remove it on purpose? Kagenashi/Zenkage refer to anime styles that reduce or remove character shading, putting greater emphasis on movement, expression and strong shapes instead. We’re gonna break down how this technique works, where it came from and why making a flat look convincing is much harder than it seems. #OtsuAnimation
