We're entering a new era. Where machines don't just detect the world, they understand it. Introducing REV8:

A connected vehicle can only react to what it knows is there, and a car cannot see a pedestrian stepping out from behind a parked truck or around a blind corner. Ouster BlueCity gives it that missing view. The same lidar system a city uses for signal actuation and safety analytics also feeds the roadside unit, turning each intersection into a V2X safety hub. It detects the precise position, speed, and path of every road user in 3D and broadcasts standardized safety messages to connected vehicles: Basic Safety Messages and Personal Safety Messages under SAE J2735, and the newer SAE J3224 sensor data sharing message that combines every road user into one comprehensive picture. A vehicle is warned about a pedestrian or a hazard before it ever comes into view. Learn more about V2X with Ouster BlueCity:

Today, we introduced Rev8: our next-generation family of OS digital lidar sensors Powered by Ouster L4 Silicon, Rev8 doubles the range and resolution of our platform while introducing native Spatial Color (RGB) The new OS1 Max delivers our highest performance yet, featuring 256 channels of vertical resolution, and up to 500m max range to support high-speed autonomy and long-range detection

Traditional SLAM: capture lidar, capture camera, fuse in post, correct drift, build map This is a Rev8 OS1 Max running SLAM down Union Street in San Francisco. The colorized point cloud is generated from a single sensor in a single pass, with color and depth captured in the same photon event

With Rev8, color is perceived in the right place, at the right distance, at the right moment. Ouster L4 silicon captures color and depth in the same photon event, with Fujifilm color science embedded directly on the chip. This is a Rev8 OS1 Max driving the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Every traffic signal, brake light, and bike lane resolved in 48-bit native color, perfectly aligned with depth at the silicon level.

Cities need detailed traffic data, and residents have a right to privacy. Ouster BlueCity is designed with system-level privacy features at the edge, capturing the movement of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists while applying privacy enhancing techniques to reduce the collection of identifying features such as facial features. While native color lidar on Rev8 adds richer detail to that picture, Ouster BlueCity enhances privacy by design, blurring pedestrians directly at the intersection. As a result, municipalities and DOTs get full situational awareness for the traffic team while ensuring privacy for everyone at the crosswalk.

This was captured without a camera. Every point carries its true 3D position and 48-bit native color, fused in the same photon event. Here is a palm-lined drive down Beverly Drive in Los Angeles, the trees, the road, and the light all captured with Rev8 lidar alone, accurate from 1 lux to 2 million lux.

San Francisco's Chinatown is notoriously busy. Hand-painted, colorful signage, awnings stretched across every storefront, vendors, pedestrians and traffic all moving through narrow streets. It's an environment with high visual density, high motion, and high information per square meter. This is a Rev8 OS1 Max. We stacked the reflectivity channel on top and the RGB (native color) channel on the bottom, both captured at the same time. Reflectivity picks out what stands out, while native color tells you what those things are. A bright return becomes a readable sign, while a car ahead becomes a white sedan with its left brake light lit.
