‘I was screaming’: Scientists shocked as dolphins filmed using shells to trap prey for the first time | New York Post Researchers are shell-shocked at the latest marine discovery. Dolphins have been filmed using shells to ensnare their prey off the coast of Australia, marking the first time this clever tactic has been caught on camera, per a bombshell paper in Marine Mammal Science. “The second I saw that shell in the air, I immediately knew what was happening,” the study’s head author, Alexis Levengood, a marine mammal biologist at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, told ScienceAlert. Levengood said she and her team were on a research vessel off Hervey Bay when they spotted a female Pacific bottlenose “dolphin raising something large out of the water,” the BBC reported. She instantly recognized the behavior as “shelling,” when dolphins flush prey into a large empty seasnail shell. Then, the impromptu fish trap to the surface and drains the quarry into their mouths like a fishy oyster shooter. In the dramatic clip captured in 2025, the brainy cetacean can be seen holding a shell aloft, and then dropping it in the water, before snatching up a fish that escaped its calcified prison. “I was screaming to the students that were on the boat with me in excitement, because I was just so excited that we were actually witnessing this here on the east coast,” exclaimed Levengood. While the behavior had been observed in 2013 in Shark Bay, Western Australia, this was the first video evidence of the ingenious prey-snatching method. And this wasn’t some fleeting party trick, either. In another clip from Hervey Bay, a mother and a calf could be seen shelling together, demonstrating that the behavior is passed down from generation to generation and not between peers as previously believed. “We saw the mother surface with a shell, the fish inside escaped and the dolphin dropped the shell to chase the fish,” said Levengood. “Then, minutes afterwards, the dolphin calf picked up the shell and held it the same way as its mother.” While it’s yet unclear if either was successful in their trapping efforts, the scientist said the “footage provides the first potential evidence of maternal social transmission — a process by which offspring learn behavior by observing the actions of their mother.” When coupled with the observations from 2013, this eye-opening footage demonstrates how populations of dolphins learned to use tools in the exact same manner despite being thousands of miles apart. “They may have both invented this or innovated this independently of one another, or it’s even possible that there might be some populations up north that are doing this that we don’t even know about yet,” Levengood told Science Alert. She concluded that either way, “these findings highlight just how smart, clever, and innovative dolphins are.” On a larger scale, shelling could also help shed light on how humans evolved to use tools as well. “But better understanding of shelling and other tool use in non-human animals will continue to teach us more about ourselves and how and why we evolved the way we did,” said Levengood.

Warren, the third-largest city in Michigan, has become a victim not only of Muslim refugee policies of the 1990s and 2000s but also of chain migration. Foreign immigrant visas for the city have also exploded in recent years (at least before Trump’s second term). And it all started with a mosque. In the past, neighbors Justin Tye and Wendy Schneider could hear the church bells ringing on Sundays. Now they hear only the Islamic call to prayer. “It all started when they (the Muslims) bought the mosque roughly six years ago,” Tye explained to Fox News. “After Ramadan, they would have their prayer service. It was unannounced. We didn’t know anything.” “All of a sudden, we were just woken up to 100-plus people behind the mosque, with an imam on a podium with big amplifier speakers, belting out his prayer service,” he continued. “So it woke up the whole neighborhood.” But when Tye called the police, they ignored his pleas for accountability and instead placated the Muslims. Since then, Tye said his whole neighborhood has been flipped in less than a decade. Moreover, he said his new Muslim neighbors were two-faced. “They’re nice and everything, but I go by their actions, and their actions aren’t nice,” Tye explained. As proof, Tye cited the fact that pastors at the old Lutheran church used to allow kids of all backgrounds to play sports in a field behind the church. Now, only Muslims are allowed. He also added that the Muslims will “turn anything into a mosque.” Fox News backed up Tye’s claims by revealing that within a 7-mile radius of his neighborhood, there are now 5 mosques. These include an old industrial machinery business and a former Baptist church. Tye also pointed out that Muslims tried to bully the Warren City Council into turning a residential home into a mosque before a bitter zoning battle, but local officials denied their demand. Roads have also become too dangerous to drive on due to the influx of foreign Muslims. “One thing that I’ve found is that the driving conditions around here are very dangerous, and especially on their Friday, I make no appointments,” Schneider told Fox News. “Because it’s too dangerous to try to leave my house.” Schneider added that she did this interview even though she was afraid doing so would get her in trouble with her Muslim ‘neighbors’ and perhaps the police. A third neighbor, who has lived in Warren since 1971 and spoke to Fox News off-camera, elaborated more on the Muslim conquest of Warren. “Seems like every restaurant that closes up — American restaurant — there’s a Muslim restaurant that opens up. I’ve seen four or five of them so far,” he said. A fourth neighbor also echoed Tye’s claims of the Muslims’ conquest and callous behavior toward others. “I’m normally laid back. The infamous encampment had gone viral once again in late August thanks to a video taken by a parent dropping her son off at UC Berkeley that showed large camping tents, trash, sleeping bags, garbage, tarps, dirty mattresses, bikes and other debris piled up in heaps and spilling out into the street for several blocks. The encampment had been officially deemed a fire hazard by public officials, with community services also noting “dead rats all over the streets,” as well as regular instances of “visible bodily fluids and feces” on the ground, as The College Fix reported. It was also the location of a leptospirosis outbreak. It’s a good thing Berkeley finally got their act together on this. It certainly took long enough.
