Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma Udeh, salutes Governor Soludo, as she was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police. She is a Supernumerary (SPY) officer. Who is a Supernumerary Police (SPY)? SPYs are private individuals trained and authorized by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for specific security roles, often within their employing organizations, augmenting regular police strength. They aren't NPF employees but function under police authority, have specific duties (like property protection), wear distinct uniforms (often labeled "SPY"), and possess police powers in their jurisdiction, though they don't take the same oath as regular officers. The Police Act 2020 formalized their role, aiming for professionalism and identification.
