इंडस्ट्री की राजनीति से निराश और हताश होकर #जयदेव बिना किसी को बताए चुपचाप मुंबई छोड़ गए। एक शो के सिलसिले में वे दिल्ली गए थे और वहीं उन्होंने तय कर लिया कि अब वापस नहीं लौटेंगे। इधर आलाप पर काम शुरू होने जा रहा था, जो ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी के दिल के बहुत करीब था। एन. सी. सिप्पी इस फिल्म को लेकर बेहद उत्साहित थे और अमिताभ बच्चन भी, जो एक्शन हीरो की अपनी छवि बदलने के लिये इस किस्म की गम्भीर भूमिकाएं करना चाह रहे थे| फिल्म की आत्मा संगीत था। सवाल था कि संगीत कौन देगा। जो संगीत के माधुर्य और शास्त्रीयता को आम जन के लिये सरल रूप में प्रस्तुत कर सके बर्मन दा और मदन मोहन अब इस दुनिया में नहीं थे, इसलिए फिल्म के सबसे ज़रूरी के लिए सबकी राय एक ही नाम पर आकर ठहरी "जयदेव" । लेकिन जयदेव थे कहां? वे इंडस्ट्री छोड़कर मानो एक तरह के अज्ञातवास में चले गए थे। कोई दूसरा विकल्प दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था। जयदेव के बिना यह फिल्म संभव नहीं थी। उनकी तलाश हर दिशा में शुरू हुई। कोलकाता से लेकर दिल्ली और पंजाब तक उन्हें ढूंढा गया। यह खोज एक महीने से भी अधिक समय तक चलती रही। इसी दौरान कपूरथला में रहते हुए जयदेव को एक मित्र के ज़रिये खबर मिली कि उनकी तलाश हो रही है। उन्होंने सिप्पी साहब को फोन किया। सिप्पी साहब ने कहा, “पहली ट्रेन पकड़कर मुंबई आ जाइए। यह काम आपके लिए ही बना है।” जयदेव लौटे और हमें आलाप जैसा उत्कृष्ट संगीत मिला, जिसकी मिठास हमेशा रहेगी| कीजे सुदृष्टि सेवक जान अपना इतना वरदान दीजे तान, ताल और अलाप बुद्धि, अलंकार शारदा। माता सरस्वती शारदा 🙏 आप सबको बसंत पंचमी और सरस्वती पूजो की शुभकामनाएं #Jaidev #Alaap #AmitabhBachchan #HrishikeshMukherjee #Lata #Yesudas #BasantPanchami

In 1980, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo stepped into film direction with his first feature Zhaakol, a psychological murder mystery. For this film, he hoped to include the voice of Pt. Kumar Gandharva, something that had never taken place in cinema before. He requested Panditji, who agreed, and recorded a song specifically for the film. It was filmed as a full concert sequence, making it a rare and remarkable moment in film history. Panditji appears in the sequence with his long-time accompanists, Sh. Chintamani Kirkire and Smt Neelambari Kirkire. [parents of Swanand Kirkire] for the Sangat like his many live concerts. One of the real power of cinema is its ability to preserve performance and memory. We lost Chintamani Kirkire sir today. His departure was gentle and dignified, in keeping with the quiet grace he carried through life. I am sure he will continue to breathe in Swanand bhai's music. October10 - जगजीत की याद का दिन .. 'बात निकलेगी तो फिर दूर तलक जायेगी' जगजीत ने कफ़ील आज़र की ये नज़्म, फ़िल्म मैगज़ीन 'शमा' में पढ़ी थी उन्होने सबसे पहले वो भुपिंदर सिंह की आवज़ में रेकार्ड करवाई, जो रिलीज़ नहीं हुई. फिर अर्जुन देव रश्क़ की एक फ़िल्म के लिये रेकार्ड की, जो फ़िल्म बनी नहीं..हर रचना की अपनी नियति होती है. उनको ये नज़्म बेहद पसंद थी तो प्रतिबंध हटने के बाद के अपने पहले एलबम #TheUnforgettables में शामिल की. फ़िल्म मेकर बासु भट्टाचार्य ने हिंदी फ़िल्मों में सबसे पहले जगजीत सिंह की प्रतिभा को पहचाना (वैसे पहले जगजीत साठ के दशक में गुजराती फ़िल्म मे भजन गा चुके थे),और फ़िल्म आविष्कार में क्लासिक रचना ’बाबुल मोरा नैहर छूटो ही जाये’ को बासु ने जगजीत-चित्रा के युगल स्वरों में बेहद खूबसूरती से क्लाईमैक्स में प्रस्तुत किया. उसके बाद अपनी अगली फ़िल्म गृह-प्रवेश में जगजीत की गाई ’बात निकलेगी तो फित दूर तलक जायेगी’ को फिर से शामिल किया. बासु दा ने रेडियो पे बजते गीत के वोल्यूम को जिस तरह से दोनो चरित्रों के उहापोह और अन्दर ही अन्दर चलने वाले द्वंद को पेश किया है, वो उनके खामोश सिनेमा का एक बेहतरीन आयाम पेश करता है. वहीं बाबुल मोरा दोनो चरित्रों के कॉनफ़्लिक्ट का रेसोल्यूशन बनता है, और बासु दा उसे विदाई गीत के बजाय घर वापसी का गीत बनाते हैं - घर अमर-मानसी का सुनिये .. #JagjitSingh #DeathAnniversary #BasuBhattacharya #JagjitChitra #WazidAliShah #SongsonRadio #KafeelAzar #KanuRoy

झुमका गिरा रे, बरेली के बज़ार में - 1932 में Yet even before the Shamshad version of 1947, #JhumkaGiraRe had already fallen in #BareilykeBazaar as it appeared on records in 1932 rendered by Miss Dulari for a non film record. Sometimes when a film has a dedicated lyricist & yet for some specific reason, if the film opens up an opportunity for a guest lyricist, the guest lyricist misses a mention in credits on various occasions & platforms.. In last 27yrs, since the existence of Gulzaronline, & interaction with thousands of gulzar-fans personally, have come across many hundred people & instances & even many music web sites that incorrectly attributes this gorgeous song to Gulzar sb, while the song was penned by Naqsh Lyallpuri It happened with Gharonda, Gulzar sb was not only writing screenplay, dialogs but also songs and poem for the film.. It was during the making of the film Runa Laila visited India and met Jaidev ji.. She desperately wanted to do a song with #Jaidev ji, but the problem was she was here for 3-4 days.. Jaidev called Naqsh saab to hotel and asked him to write some impromptu words with modern/urban context. Naqsh saab came up with an unusual love song.. "Mujhe pyaar tumse nahin hai, nahin hai".. for the theme, Jaidev ji just gave a cue, that he wants a modern love song, which should have an urban feel. The song was created in few sittings, tune/words & singing (Naqsh saab has told that many of the Jaidev songs were created impromptu, without any purpose.. His habit was to create music whenever these people sat together for any reason, rather than getting into any kind of chit chat. चलो कोई गाना बनाते हैं ). Jaidev ji was doing Gharonda in those days and asked diector Bhimsen if they can record this song for it can be accommodated in the film, as he felt this could well be a very good fit for the film theme and ambience.. Hence Naqsh saab came in and the film had two lyricists.. (As told by Naqsh saab) ji, as if she was destined to sing this one!What an outing this turned out to be for the artists involved.. as they all came up with a Gem of a song! Meeting Pancham This heartwarming story was shared by my dear friend, singer Udbhav Ojha, a lifelong admirer of R.D. Burman. Ever since his childhood, Udbhav had been a devoted fan of Pancham da. When he moved to Mumbai in the early 1990s, his biggest dream was to sing for the maestro. Driven by that dream, he would go every day to Panchamda’s house and stand outside, hoping for a glimpse of him, perhaps even a chance meeting. This continued for a month. The guard never let him in.. So he would just stand for hours, watching the house, watching #Panchamda step out and return. One day, however, two policemen picked him up and took him to the nearby police station. There had been a theft at Panchamda’s house, and Udbhav’s repeated presence had raised suspicion. The watchman and a servant had reported him as a possible suspect. A Marathi inspector questioned Udbhav, suspecting his motive. At that time still in his late teens, Udbhav broke down and began to cry. Something moved the inspector, who realized this boy wasn't a thief. Udbhav told him, he came to Mumbai to become a singer . The inspector then asked him to hum a few songs. After hearing him, the inspector released him. Shaken and disheartened, not just by the accusation but by the feeling that even Panchamda might have misunderstood him, Udbhav considered leaving Mumbai. Still, something pulled him back to the same lane one last time. And there, the watchman recognized him. “Panchamda wants to see you!” he told with some excitement. Someone had briefed Panchamda about the incident, and he now realized a struggling young singer had been falsely accused. Udbhav was invited in. He finally met Pancham da, spent time with his entire team, and Panchamda listened the entire kissa, asked Udbhav to sing and even asked to play sitar. Panchamda smiled and said, “You’re still very young to be a singer, but keep visiting and feel free to come here.” Over the next year or so, Udbhav remained closely associated with Panchamda in various capacities. He even became a dubbing singer for a few tracks. One of the songs he dubbed was the beautiful “Hum na samjhe the baat itni si” - Destiny You Know.. [Later Udbhav became lead singer in Mohabbatein for Jatin Lalit] Recently, Udbhav recorded a tribute song for our Chaupaal, in remembrance of Kishore, Pancham for Gulzar saab's 90th Bday , a heartfelt tribute to the legends who inspired his journey. The arrangement was modern and his (better than Bappi Lahiri) voice & singing was good enough to evoke a good dose of nostalgia. This remained a regular for cassette recrding till college - early 90s. We had rumors in those days of school that the song is imported from Pakistan from a Sajjad Ali Song but later got to know it was an English song. Ajit Singh's daughter Tanya Singh later reprised this song in 90s in Indi Pop and the number was quite popular
