Just a little history where Slavic people came from. Slavic people come from Eastern Europe. Most scholars place their early home in the forests and marshes of southern Belarus and northern Ukraine. Romans called their ancestors Venedi. Byzantines first wrote the name Sklavenoi in the 6th century. Their name likely comes from the word slovo, which means word. It meant people who speak our language. In the 6th to 8th centuries they spread across Central and Eastern Europe. They built simple villages and later formed states like Kievan Rus. The English word slave comes from Medieval Latin sclavus. That word came from the Greek name for Slavs. From the 8th to 11th centuries many Slavs were captured in wars and sold to Byzantium, to Muslim markets, and by Vikings, Magyars, and later Tatars. So many slaves in those markets were Slavs that the ethnic name became the word for slave in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Slavs also took captives themselves. Their own old word for a slave was rab. That word later gave us robot. According to this history, am I entitled to reparations?
