SPEAKING OF BACKGROUND CHECKS: Imran Awan, a Pakistani-American IT specialist, along with family members, worked as shared IT staff for multiple House Democrats including Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz from 2004–2017. The group faced investigation over alleged procurement irregularities and unauthorized computer equipment handling; Awan was arrested in 2017 while trying to leave for Pakistan — but only on Bank Fraud charges. There are still questions about his ability to pull House Democrats server data while working remotely in Pakistan and what other countries might also have had or still have access to highly sensitive data. The reason we don’t know is because Democrats blocked the investigation. And the reason this criminal network was allowed to run congressional IT since 2004, is because Democrats never ran a background check before hiring them.
