Why India needs its own global ratings system: 1.Democracy Index: India ranks at 104. Below Niger (ruled by a military junta, President under house arrest since July 2023). Also below Kuwait (Parliament dissolved last month, because some lawmaker insulted the Emir) 2.Happiness Index: India ranks at 126. Pakistan is at 108 (broke, overrun by terrorists). India is also below Myanmar (coup, civil war), and war-hit Ukraine & Palestine! Freedom Index: India ranks at 161. Taliban’s Afghanistan is at 152. Pakistan too ranks above India, as do the UAE, Brunei, Somalia and Uganda.

PM Sheikh Hasina ousted, flees Bangladesh. Army takes over, names an interim govt minus the Awami League. Celebrations/chaos on the streets + the PM’s official residence. How did it come to this? What next for Dhaka? What does this mean for India? Watch Vantage tonight Firstpost

A conversation that lays bare the limits of India’s partnerships with the West. For all the talk of trade deals and deepening ties (both welcome!), New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon uses the same old, selectively deployed “free speech” argument to justify no action against Khalistani separatists in his country. Plus ça change…? Full interview on Firstpost, where he talks about why he “loves India,” his equation with PM Narendra Modi, and what’s tougher - running an airline or running a country? (He was the CEO of Air New Zealand.)
