𝐂𝐡𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐮𝐣𝐚 - 𝟓𝐭𝐡, 𝟔𝐭𝐡, 𝟕𝐭𝐡 & 𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐂𝐡𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐡 is a beautiful and deeply spiritual festival celebrated with great devotion in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and among communities from these regions. It is a time to honor Surya Deva (the Sun God) and Maa Katyayani, the sixth form of Maa Durga, revered as Chatthi Maa. Through this festival, devotees express their gratitude for life, health, and prosperity. The four-day celebration emphasizes purity, dedication, and a deep connection with nature, with each ritual reflecting respect for the cycle of life and the divine energies that sustain it. Each day has its own meaningful rituals: Day 1 🔹 The festival begins with devotees taking a holy bath in rivers or other water bodies. Homes are thoroughly cleaned to create a sacred space, and some people bring water from the Ganges to use in rituals. Day 2 (Kharna) 🔹 Devotees fast all day, not even drinking water, as a gesture of spiritual discipline and offer prayers to Maa Katyayni (Chhathi Maa). They break their fast in the evening with a simple meal of rice pudding (kheer), fruits, and chapatis, shared with family and friends. Day 3 (Sandhya Arghya) 🔹 Devotees prepare offerings (prasad) to present to the setting sun. At dusk, people gather by rivers and make offerings to honor the sun’s warmth and life-giving energy. This day also features the Kosi ritual, where sugarcane canopies are decorated with lamps and prasad, creating a beautiful, sacred scene. Day 4 🔹 (Usha Aragh) Before dawn, devotees return to the riverbanks to offer Arghya to the rising sun. This ritual signifies hope, renewal, and gratitude for the new day. Afterward, devotees break their fast and share the prasad with friends, family, and neighbors. Chhath Puja uniquely worships both the setting and rising sun, symbolizing balance, the cyclical nature of life, and a deep respect for the natural world.
