20 years ago OTD in Blue Bombers History July 20, 2006. Bombers are down by 3 to Eskimos with the ball on their own 10 yd line and time for one last play. Kevin Glenn and Milt Stegall play pitch and catch as Stegall scores a 100 yd touchdown to give the Bombers a 25-22 victory.

OTD in Hockey History March 23, 1996. Detroit Vipers Bill Armstrong scores with his signature move the “High Wrap.” Next day in the NCAA playoffs on ESPN the Wolverines Mike Legg, who had learned the move from Armstrong himself, mimicks his teacher and the “Michigan” was born

Congratulations to former Jet Keith Tkachuk selected to be inducted to Hockey Hall of Fame He scored the first 144 of his 538 NHL goals as a Jet including the last 50 goal season for a Jets player. He was selected in the 1st Rd of 1990 Draft with pick obtained in the Hawerchuk trade

Saddened to hear of the recent passing of Manitoba Curling Legend Orest Meleschuk. The Big ‘O’, 2 time Mb champ, skipped his Fort Rouge team to the Silver Broom in 1972. But the world championship was not Meleschuk’s most memorable victory. It was winning the Purple Heart.

Matt Dunstone ends Manitoba’s longest Brier drought of 15 years with 6-3 win over four time champion Kevin Koe of Alberta. Down 2-1 in 7th end Dunstone told team it was “time to dance” and took lead scoring 3. Double take out in 9 resulted in 2 more and 6-3 victory.

Just to stir the pot. Remember this goal against the Jets back in November v Tampa? NHL Situation Room ruled it was a legitimate goal by the Lightning. Hellebuyck would later reveal NHL officials admitted they erred in making that ruling. Wonder if they’ll have to do that again

More on the passing of former NHLer and Jets captain Troy Murray. Head coach Scott Arniel was briefly teammates with Murray while with the Jets but their bond goes back to the 1982 World Jr Championship when Murray captained Canada to first ever Gold medal finish

OTD in Jets History April 15, 1993 and the Edmonton Oilers are determined to not let Teemu Selanne add to his rookie goal tally. Teammates kept feeding Selanne the puck as the ‘Finnish Flash’ fired 11 shots at Bill Ranford. All were stopped but one for Selanne’s 76th goal

OTD in Blue Bombers History July 10, 2003. Roughriders up 27-26 with seconds left. Voice of the Bombers Bob Irving upset that because of poor clock management Troy Westwood had to kick a FG from 55 Yds out for the win. Bob and all Bomber fans went bonkers when Westwood made it

Seen many Blue Bombers and CFL games in my lifetime and can recall a few where the wind helped decide the outcome. But never have I seen wind and rain suddenly appear in final 30 seconds to help Bombers win 28-27 over Alouettes to clinch first place in West. GOD is a Bomber fan

Troy Murray captained Canada to first ever World Junior Championship in 1982. After 10 years in Chicago Murray was traded to Winnipeg and captained 1991/92 Jets team that surprised many by making the playoffs. Murray was one of the best Jets ever to wear the ‘C’ RIP Troy Murray
