When we settled on these grounds in Thika, some people from the region advised against it. They argued that the venue was a little far from where people naturally congregate, and that unless we organized transport, few would walk. They advised us to hold stopovers in busy markets, bus stops and other populated areas where crowds are readily available. According to them, that is how every politician campaigns in Thika. But as the organizing team, we put our foot down. We said, Sisi Ndio Sifuna, and we were going to do things differently. We believed that where there is strong conviction, people would walk whatever distance to see leaders who represent their hopes and aspirations. And they did not need to be ferried or paid to show up. They would just show up in their numbers. The grounds did not even have an official name. But because they sit opposite Kivulini Estate, we named them Kivulini Grounds and from now on, that is what they shall be called😜 And the people did not disappoint. Even before we arrived from church, the grounds were already full. Many people also walked with us all the way from town. As I said yesterday, it is beautiful to watch the making of Edwin Sifuna into a national phenomenon. Together with the incoming Governor of Nairobi Babu Owino, Orengo, Osotsi and the entire Linda Mwananchi team, a formidable movement is taking shape and sweeping across the country. Na jana, tuliguza murima!

I have seen some people circulating a 2017 screenshot, claiming that I am lying and pretending when I say that Baba was my friend and that I was like his daughter. In 2017, we were on different political sides. Like in any heated political contest, many things were said in the course of political banter, something both Baba and Uhuru openly acknowledged and apologised for, including on behalf of their supporters. From November 2018, I began working closely with Baba, shortly after his appointment as AU’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development. At the time, I was with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), and our office supported his role. I was also part of his 2022 campaign, and in 2024 he personally appointed me into his AUC campaign team. Over a period of 7 years, I had the privilege of learning directly from him. He gave me numerous opportunities, travelled with me across Africa and beyond, and allowed me to sit in high-level meetings that shaped my perspective and growth. That was Baba! A man who never judged me by my tribe or my previous political positions. He saw my potential and gave me an opportunity. He often expressed how proud he was of my work and my convictions. The last time we spoke was on 8th October 2025, while he was still in India, a week before he passed on. I even made a post about that conversation on the same day. That was Baba…my friend! So, to those trying to twist this story to fit a convenient political narrative I will ask, WHO TOLD YOU? Do you claim to know me better than Baba did? And isn’t the same Ruto you now support the one who once called Baba all manner of names? Did he ever publicly apologise the way Baba and Uhuru did? What exactly explains this selective memory, this hypocrisy and these double standards? All in all, yesterday I was in Kisumu, and was so overwhelmed by the love that was expressed. On the way to the rally, so many young people kept calling me by name and saying how much they love me for supporting Baba. Others were even calling me msichana ya Baba. This is the real ground!

The outgoing angry, toxic and abusive president churns out lies as if his life dependends on them. He claims that his avoidable housing programme has created 1 million jobs 🤣. According to KNBS (a government body), jobs in the ENTIRE construction sector stand at 728,400. The sector has only added 77,000 jobs in the last 3 years. So, how has one programme created 1 million jobs, while the entire sector reports way less, and not to forget that most of these jobs are under the private sector. Is the math mathing? Meanwhile, his salary as president is 1.4 million. But he trying to rage bait the crowd by claiming that a senator earns a salary of 1.8 million 🤔 Anyway, Sifuna has said he will do away with the housing levy, and restore the dignity of the payslip. We cannot continue subjecting the Kenyan worker to such a heavy tax burden, so that one man and his friends can make billions supplying materials to the said project. By the way, ni slums ngapi imemaliza? Ni Wakenya wangapi wametoka nyumba za matope zenye hazina choo as Ruto says, and are now living in the over-hyped houses?

My last conversation with Baba Raila Odinga was on 8th October, 2025, and I shared a post here about it that day. He told me that the medical issues had been diagonosed, he had received treatment and was now resting. We even joked about some of the exaggerated stories circulating on social media, and he assured me that he would be back in Nairobi from India by the end of the following week. You can imagine the shock when we woke up to the news of his death a week later, on 15th Oct. I was heartbroken and even angry. He had promised to come back that very week. The thought that he would instead return in a coffin was too painful to bear😭 From 2018, I had the privilege of working with Baba on three different assignments: his work as the African Union’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development, the 2022 presidential election campaign and the AUC Chairmanship campaign. Baba was a political colossus. The most consequential politician of our times. A statesman and a committed Pan-Africanist. Knowing him and working with him was a privilege and a great honour. Today, I choose to remember him as the African Lion. In his memory, allow me to share one of the videos we produced during the AUC campaign.

Kenya registered 527,000 new voters. The next enhanced voter registration exercise is likely to attract the same number or more. Do the math! And while at it, why is your administration registering Ugandans and Ethiopians to vote if you are so confident about your numbers?
