My first speech in the new session of Parliament. Substance, not slogans.

This afternoon, I asked if the Scottish Government agrees with Glasgow City Council's claim that it "simply isn't credible" to establish an official, managed fan zone due to costs. It is time for everyone to step up and take action to prevent Glasgow's streets and emergency services from being subject to entirely predictable and preventable disorder every year.

🕸️ There is very good reason why Glasgow is often mistaken for New York City. 🇺🇸 🏴

Awful to see a fire break out in the roof of the Revolver Hotel and Polo Lounge. I hope no one is hurt and the fire can be contained. The old Scottish Legal Life Building by Alexander Skirving dates from 1889 and is one of Glasgow's earliest red sandstone commercial buildings.

Govan Shipyard was saved from closure by Kvaerner of Norway in 1988, who turned it into one of the most efficient shipyards in Europe. Now Govan Shipyard will build Type 26 Frigates for the Royal Norwegian Navy, in its biggest-ever export deal. An outstanding achievement! 🇳🇴🏴

Glaswegians are paying the highest bus fares of any British city and the need for franchising is obvious. I urged the Scottish Government to commit £4m to SPT and bring buses into public control. Credit to Better Buses for Strathclyde for the graphic highlighting the unfair bus fares the people of Glasgow are being subjected to👏

We need all levels of government to unite to help Glasgow recover from this disaster. Crowdfunding for those whose livelihoods have been wiped out has been amazing, but they need state support. I also want a clear commitment to faithful reinstatement of the 175-year-old building

Despite the fantastic news that Glasgow will build 5 Type 26 frigates for Norway, this SNP Minister can't bring himself to welcome it. The Scottish Government must get steel production back in action at Liberty's Dalzell plate mill so we can get Scottish steel into these ships.

Another fire at the historic Carlton Place terrace. This one is more severe and has taken hold in a section of the roof. Thankfully, the firefighters have contained the fire in the attic space and are bringing it under control. We need urgent Council intervention to save it now.

It is disheartening to see the ongoing state of dereliction of Golfhill Primary School in Dennistoun. Despite planning permission being granted in 2024 for the development of 18 much needed flats, there has been no evident progress on this conversion. I will continue to push Spectrum Properties to restore this iconic building and bring it back into use for the benefit of the community.

A historic victory for community-owned housing happened in Glasgow tonight. Against all odds, the members of Dennistoun's Reidvale Housing Association rallied and voted to reject a takeover by a huge London-based housing group by a resounding 138 to 70. People Make Glasgow!

Farewell to the last shift of the iconic 'Clockwork Orange' Metro-Cammell trains on the Glasgow Subway, as they completed the last of millions of circles under the Clyde today. These little workhorses have served our city and its people for 44 years. 16 April 1980–28 June 2024

In December, I raised concerns about the Scottish Government subsidising buses made in China at the expense of Scottish manufacturers like Alexander Dennis in Falkirk. The government must now get round the table with ADL and Scottish bus operators to save 400 jobs.

I have been working to save the historic Golfhill School in Dennistoun for several years. A revised plan for housing is now being proposed, which will retain the listed façade of the 122-year-old building. Go along to the public consultation on Monday afternoon to find out more
