Standing Up for Democracy Today, I joined fellow Nigerians, leaders, and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by National Chairman Sen. David Mark to participate in a peaceful "Save Democracy" protest. This event was not just an effort to protect our democracy; it was also a moment of reflection on how far we have fallen as a nation. We must resist the suffocation of our democracy by those who once claimed to have sacrificed to defend it, but are now doing everything possible to undermine it and silence opposition. History will not be kind to those who traded the struggle for democracy for the comfort of power. It is profoundly disheartening that, notwithstanding the pendency of several applications before the court—including duly filed and served committal proceedings—the individual who unlawfully entered the premises of Next Foods Limited in Ikeja GRA has continued to act with brazen impunity, showing utter disregard for both the authority of the court and the sanctity of public order. It is a well-established principle of law, and indeed of civil society, that once parties have submitted their grievances to the judiciary, they are duty-bound to maintain the status quo and allow the court to determine the issues before it. Any deviation from this principle not only undermines the justice system but also sets a dangerous precedent for lawlessness. My younger brother, who serves as the Chairman of Next Limited, and I have spared no effort in trying to identify and reach out to the woman who lays claim to the property in question, with the sincere intention of exploring a peaceful and amicable resolution. Still on the Demolished Ikeja Property The legal counsel to Next Foods Limited, acting on the instruction of the company’s CEO, my younger brother, Ndibe Obi, has taken the matter to court over the Ikeja property that was unlawfully demolished after a trespasser misled the court into granting an unjust possession order. I have now been informed that the same trespasser, under the cover of night, is erecting a fence within the premises in an apparent attempt to divide the land into two. The secrecy and desperation surrounding this act speak volumes. It reeks of impunity and appears to be a calculated move to further complicate the ongoing legal proceedings. Whatever the motive, this is a blatant act of trespass and a direct assault on the rule of law. Fortunately, the matter is now before the court. Health, Education, and pulling people out of poverty remain the three most important measures of development of any nation. That is why my support for these critical areas continues to remain a priority. Today, Friday 9th May, I visited a healthcare facility established and managed by the Church of Nigeria, the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa. After inspecting the facility, I thanked the proprietor and his team for the good work they are doing in helping to ease the burden of our struggling healthcare system, especially for maintaining such a neat and conducive environment for patients. In support of their efforts, I made a token donation of 10 million naira. I encouraged them to remain committed to their service to humanity and also assured them of my continued support for the hospital, healthcare workers, and the healthcare system in general. The society we abuse today will eventually take its toll on our children, because they will only learn by our example. Everything we are experiencing in our country today is a reflection of the decay of civility and orderliness. When we choose to conduct both our public and personal lives with bad behaviour and rascality, we normalise bad behaviour, lawlessness, and criminality. I watched a heartbreaking video that showed students in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State running for their lives as they were being shot at during their student election yesterday which left 2 students dead and several injured. The question is: Where did they learn it from? Are they cursed, or are we the political leaders who are cursed? When we have chosen to "fight, snatch it, grab it, and run with it" how can we expect our children to do it rightly and democratically when they have learned from us? This is not just disgraceful, it’s a national indictment. When we, the leaders, have chosen to fight, snatch, grab and run with it, our children have learned similar and rascality is now a normal situation. It is now up to us, the leaders, to learn how to restore civility, order, and core values in our society by ensuring that our character and behaviour reflect the change we seek in our society. Saving the Only Hospital in Mgbowo Yesterday, after attending the symposium celebrating the 70th birthday of Prof. Pat Utomi, I visited St. Anthony’s Hospital in Mgbowo, Enugu State. This facility was inherited by the Catholic Diocese of Awgu from the former Enugu Diocese. At its peak, the hospital was a large and vital institution, serving both the host community and several surrounding areas. Today, it remains the only health facility available to these communities. After touring the premises and assessing the condition of the facilities, I made a donation of ₦10 million. I realised the extensive work needed to restore the hospital, and I assured the management that, while this task cannot be handled by one person alone, I will continue to contribute monthly towards its rehabilitation. The involvement of missionaries—whether Christian or Muslim—in providing essential social services deserves our support and commendation. Through their efforts, they help fill critical gaps and assist the government in fulfilling its basic obligations to society. I have attached a video of the hospital to illustrate the extent of its deterioration and the urgent help it requires. By offering support, we are not only restoring a facility but also reaffirming our shared responsibility to protect life and dignity in our communities. A new Nigeria is Possible. -PO

When I advocate for the unity of Nigeria, I do so with deep sincerity and conviction. Our cohesion is an indispensable foundation for peaceful coexistence, sustainable development, and enduring national stability. I urge my fellow Nigerians to reflect on the example of India—a nation with a far larger population and an even more intricate web of ethnic and religious diversity—yet one that continues to forge unity from complexity. Ultimately, the true fault lines in our national life are neither tribal nor religious. No tribe or religion enjoys cheaper food in the market, nor is any group more secure than another.
