After 33 years of public service, one of my constituents has now waited more than six months for the pension he is owed. He has exhausted the interest-free loans available to him, faced selling his car and been unable to support his daughter through university as planned - all while undergoing cancer treatment. He still has not received his pension. That is unacceptable, and I raised his case in Parliament. 👇️

From my career in the NHS I know that even the best palliative care cannot prevent the terrifying loss of dignity and control that can occur in a person's last days. People should not have to face this prospect at the end of their lives. This Bill will shorten death, not life.

I had expected to come straight to Parliament from my operating theatre. Instead I received a call telling me that my operating list was cancelled because there were no beds. The Government will deal with NHS backlogs by investing in our health service.

Many people are concerned about how the Assisted Dying Bill is being handled in the Lords. Scrutiny matters, but so does respecting the will of the elected House. It’s important that this process remains serious, proportionate, and focused on the Bill.
