I had to watch this movie again as an adult to understand that to Carol, this attack is proof that she is allergic to the world (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity). However, to the audience, they thought she was having a repressed panic attack. The Unsettling Ending where, In her pursuit of safety, Carol isolates herself inside a completely insulated, igloo-like porcelain dome, left me wondering if she is actually healing or just withdrawing into permanent imprisonment.
