Kenya Passes Law to Block Russian Mercenary Recruitment Kenya has enacted new legislation to stop its citizens from being recruited into foreign wars, after reports emerged that over 500 Kenyans have already been enlisted by Russia to fight in Ukraine.

Russia is extending its reach across Africa not only through diplomacy and military cooperation, but also through religion. Since 2022, the Russian Orthodox Church reports that more than 200 African parishes have switched their allegiance to Moscow.

Deceived into joining the Russian military by a fake job offer, Sierra Leonean POW Richard Kanu still prefers Russia to his homeland. He says he’d “100% choose to go back to Russia.” Ukraine says Russia has recruited nearly 3,000 African fighters, with over 300 killed.

I exposed how Russia helped orchestrate the coup that truncated democracy in Mali. I revealed the Russian-linked reason behind the coup that ended civilian rule in Burkina Faso. I wasn’t wrong then, and I’m not wrong when I say Russia is eyeing more African nations.

I know my job as journalist investigating Russian atrocities is risky and my life will always be at risk. But the implication of Russia’s actions in Africa and beyond is so huge that I really feel I have no choice but to do what I do.
