Today entering Gaza City. The ruins of life. A donkey laying dead attached to a cart with someone’s possessions. Clusters of people crossing to the South, with too much to walk with under the sun and given the length of the journey. A man carrying a white flag in front of his family. Women about to collapse, dragging bags over the ground, walking backwards, stopping and closing their eyes. A man on the ground in underwear, with soldiers near the checkpoint. A woman presumably crossing with him, stalled, distraught, in desperation. They passed by these ruins. #Gaza #CeasefireNOW

People being forced South from the North today, walking past the destroyed houses where families used to live. We pass a dead body on the beach, being eaten by dogs. Ribcage showing and laying face down. A man putting up his fist in the air while walking down towards the checkpoint, as if to say "I am alive”. People desperate for water, bags dropped on the ground. A large group of people behind a white flag. More behind white flags moving while covering their faces from the toxic dust. The living passing by extreme destruction, as the whole notion of proximity to death is redefined. #Gaza #CeasefireNOW

Gaza's carcass. More homes convert to graves as the year draws to a close. Vast areas are stripped down to a bare shell. As conditions for life decompose, the lifesavers, the truth tellers and the aid providers are killed and detained from blackened hospitals, scorched vans, and shelled humanitarian facilities. There is no space for the living. And the graveyards are full. 2024 fades, trust in our shared sense of humanity along with it.

Crossing North of Wadi Gaza yesterday. More “postcards” of destruction. Carts left behind loaded with belongings against the wreckage. The items that carry memories are long under the rubble. Horrific stories from northern Gaza of the sick and injured, the herding of men on their knees. Considered lucky if they were wearing underwear when forced to strip and put on white PPE. Their fate cut off from the world. Little boys walking down through the checkpoint South with their hands up, marching forward. A woman sitting alone defeated with her possessions, submitting to the exhaustion. People forced away from bombardment and siege, arriving to more bombardment and siege. Another chapter of their painful journey begins. Forced to flee towards civilians who are running away from naval gunfire. A little boy telling us that someone has been killed on the sand. Forced towards no safety. No shelter. To hungry people running down sandy roads with empty pots. To the slow violence exposed through the stories of the miscarriages and the malnourished amputees, unable to heal on bread alone. Life against all odds. #Gaza #CeasefireNOW
