Wiki announced ‘Ancient History,’ his first solo album in 7 years. The project is set to release June 12. According to a press release, the album centers on New York City parks as everyday infrastructure—“places to meet friends, write, think, observe people, and briefly step outside the rush of the city without ever really leaving it.” The lead single "Park" is out now and sets the tone. patrick WIKI morales worked with a range of producers including The Alchemist, Navy Blue, Nick Hakim, Dom Maker (Mount Kimbie), and dj blackpower (MIKE). The 14-track project features NYC artists Your Old Droog, duendita, and Salimata. Wiki also tapped two NYC artists to design his cover art: Esteban Jefferson and an alternate cover from Barry Blitt. ‘Ancient History’ is Wiki's first solo full-length project since 2019’s ‘Oofie.’ But he’s been quite active in recent years, releasing collaborative projects with Tony Seltzer, MIKE & The Alchemist, Navy Blue, NAH, and Subjxct5.

14 years ago today, Odd Future (Odd Future) dropped "Oldie"—one of their most iconic videos that almost didn't happen. It only did because T refused to let anyone turn the camera off. The members of the group told the story of that day in an oral history published by The Ringer in 2022. When Odd Future descended on Milk Studios in Chelsea, the session unraveled fast. The XXL staff "were understandably trying to contain a group of rowdy kids," Mike G recalled, "but we weren't having it." Someone plugged in an iPhone, "Oldie" came through the speakers, and director Lance Bangs kept his camera rolling over objections from the room. The moment Tyler realized what was happening, he called the shots: "No, f*ck that, Lance, keep shooting this sh*t.” What followed was a single, unedited take of the entire 10-minute posse cut performed live. For thebe kgositsile, freshly back from Samoa and still finding his footing, the whole day had a surreal quality: "It just felt like a cartoon, in the sense that n****s just was doin' whatever they wanted to do." For Tyler, zooming out in real time, the stakes were clearer: “I’ve seen music documentaries, this might be the last time everyone's together so we need to document this." He was right. "A f*ckin' balloon popped that night, and we all went in our own directions. That was the last time we was all together like that. Still,” Tyler explained. Frank, looking back, arrived at the same place: "The atmosphere reminds me of how it feels to be in a room full of musicians where everyone is improvising and for a brief period it's pure magic. It's the same rush." Bangs edited the footage on a laptop during a red-eye to Portland. It now sits at over 56 million views. It cost nothing.

Back in 1994, Ethan Hawke directed a music video for his neighbor who was an unknown, unsigned artist. That artist was Lisa Loeb and her band Nine Stories. The music video was for her song “Stay (I Missed You),” which ended up becoming No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first unsigned artist to top the chart. So how did this interesting collaboration come together? At the time, Loeb and Hawke were part of the same circle of NY-based creatives that included musicians, songwriters, actors, and playwrights who regularly showed up for one another’s work. “We'd just all run around New York together and support each other as well,” Loeb tells Music Times. “I would write music for Ethan's theater company, or Ethan would come see me play.” As neighbors and friends, it wasn’t long before Hawke invited Loeb to send over a song for a film he was working on. Hawke ended up playing her demo of “Stay (I Missed You)” for Ben Stiller, who was directing the film 'Reality Bites' that starred himself, Hawke, and Winona Ryder. When the song was chosen to be featured in the film, Loeb made the decision to pass on a record deal, opting instead to keep it independent and simply license the track to RCA. "I think the record company let us make a video because Ethan Hawke was directing it, because he was a movie star," Loeb joked. Whatever the reason, the decision gave her the freedom to create the song’s music video alongside him. Hawke actually filmed different versions before ultimately landing on the one that became the song’s now iconic, single-take music video which even features his cat, Mardot.

Masayoshi Takanaka is a Tokyo-born guitarist, composer, and one of the defining architects of City Pop—Japan's genre of jazz-infused urban pop that became the soundtrack of the country's economic boom in the 1970s and '80s. Now, at 73, he is embarking on his first-ever world tour. As much a showman as a musician, Takanaka built a career around technically dazzling performances, most famously wielding his guitar built from an actual surfboard. For most of that time, audiences in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand never got to see him live. In March 2025, he played two sold-out nights at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, marking his first US performances in over 40 years. The reception was enough to set something larger in motion. When Live Nation announced his first-ever world tour in November 2025, every date sold out within days. Additional shows were added in New York and Los Angeles to meet demand. The US leg hits Brooklyn Paramount, the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, The Masonic in San Francisco, and two nights at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles this April. The shows will draw a combined audience of roughly 15,000 across venues he has never played before. At the Wiltern shows, he told the crowd, "I've been waiting for this day for so long. And now I'm your grandpa's age. But I am still young." The surfboard guitar has been restored specifically for this tour.

Massive Attack turned down Madonna to make one of the defining songs of the 90s. "Teardrop" started as a harpsichord melody that producer Neil Davidge picked out in 1997. Band member Mushroom built the track out with him, adding piano and a beat sampled from Les McCann's "Sometimes I Cry." He became so attached to it that he went behind his bandmates' backs to send the demo to Madonna, with whom the group had collaborated on a reworking of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You." She responded immediately, calling it fantastic and asking if the offer was real. It was the first Davidge or anyone else in the band had heard about it. According to an interview with Headliner, that same Sunday he stripped the song back to its essentials and rebuilt it from scratch. That session became the foundation of the released version, and Madonna was turned down. Fraser was later in the studio recording her vocals when she learned of Jeff Buckley's death. The two had been in a relationship in the mid-nineties, and Fraser has since confirmed it plainly in an interview with The Guardian: "That song's kind of about him. That's how it feels to me anyway." The dispute proved to be the final fracture within the band. Mushroom departed not long after their album 'Mezzanine' was completed. The track peaked at number 10 in the UK and is now sitting at close to 400 million streams on Spotify, more than 25 years later.

Anderson .Paak was recently spotted playing a drum kit on wheels through an LA neighborhood as part of a commercial shoot in the area. Resident Dylan captured the moment on IG: “When Anderson .Paak brings major joy vibes to your street by playing a full drum set on a go cart! And before he hit the street, he was doing in our house!!! (all for a commercial shoot.) I hope this is the beginning of much more shoots in L.A. - where they should be. Props to Mr. Paak!”
