Today, while covering the student protest, several of my colleagues and I were assaulted. This video is yet another piece of evidence showing how journalists were deliberately targeted and brutally attacked. Many of my colleagues were left bleeding. In some places, the situation became so violent that it felt as though people were being lynched. One thing I feel compelled to say is that those who carried out these attacks were not students. They were a mob, and it was evident from their conduct that they were not students. It was this mob that systematically targeted members of the media throughout the day. I was personally attacked three times while reporting. Water was thrown at me, and I was subjected to physical harassment that amounted to molestation. At the same time, I sincerely thank the students—and a few others—who formed a human chain during one of my live broadcasts, allowing me to continue reporting safely and helping protect me from the crowd. What makes this even more painful is that, from the morning onwards, all of us in the field were reporting the students’ demands fairly. We were explaining why they were united with the protest in Delhi, why they remained firm in demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister, and why they were so angry over the issue. We were simply reporting the facts. Yet, we were collectively branded as “godi media” and violently attacked. This video is a stark reminder of that reality. I have been a journalist for nearly 18 years, including 13 years in television news. No one can honestly say that I have ever reported with bias, taken sides, or spread misinformation. I have always reported from the ground—through cyclones, floods, fires, bomb blasts, political violence, and other dangerous situations. My responsibility has always been simple: to report what I witness, nothing more and nothing less. Yet, field reporters are increasingly becoming targets of violence. This is not the first time. We were attacked while reporting in Baruipur as well. No journalist should have to fear being assaulted simply for doing their job. Sayantan Ghosh thank you so much.

Pushpa is now in the police net. Jahangir Khan — the man who once said, “Jhukega Nahi” — was seen in Falta with his head bowed and hands folded as he was paraded by the police. Meanwhile, in an apparent bid to avoid arrest, two of his associates returned money allegedly collected as cut-money from beneficiaries of the housing scheme. According to local residents, the amounts ranged from ₹5,000 to ₹28,000 per person, with some allegedly paying ₹10,000. The money was returned on Sunday amid mounting pressure and an ongoing police crackdown.

TMC leaders and candidates Kunal Ghosh and Shashi Panja are staging a sit-in protest outside the strong room at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra in #Kolkata. #TMC has raised serious allegations of trespassing inside the sealed strong room and also alleged that attempts are being made to open ballot boxes without the presence of relevant party stakeholders. DEO north Kolkata arrives at the spot. (CCTV footage shared by tmc sources)
