ISRAEL BACKS PH UNSC BID. Israeli Ambassador to Manila Dana Kursh on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) confirms that Israel is set to vote for the Philippines in its non-permanent member bid to the UN Security Council (UNSC). The UN General Assembly will elect five non-permanent members, also known as the incoming five (I-5), to replace the outgoing members whose terms conclude at the end of 2026. The Philippines and Kyrgyzstan are currently vying for the sole seat UNSC allocated for the Asia-Pacific Group for the term 2027-2028. WATCH: The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrests a man for alleged swindling in an operation inside the Marriott Hotel, Resorts Drive, Pasay City on Thursday afternoon (Feb. 27, 2025). The suspect allegedly used the name of the First Family to extort from businessmen and contractors. The suspect is also a subject of several complaints in the Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crimes (OSETC) for alleged misrepresentation. WATCH: A group of graduating Electrical Engineering students of the Eastern Visayas State University in Tacloban City developed a locally sourced renewable energy system that generates 70 percent of its power from solar energy and 30 percent from hydropower, providing electricity to at least five streetlights along a farm-to-market road in Barangay Socsocon in Pastrana, Leyte. They turned over the project to local officials on Friday (May 15, 2026). The hydropower component harnesses energy from the existing flow of irrigation water without disrupting agricultural operations. WATCH: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday (Dec. 1, 2025) orders the suspension of the Complete Disability Discharge (CDD) of Army Captain Jerome Jacuba, who lost his sight after being hit by an explosive while on duty. In a video message, the President said it was “not fair” for the military to release an officer who had already risked his life in service to the country, adding that Jacuba should instead be promoted to the rank of major and reassigned to adaptive duties suitable to his experience. Marcos directed the Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner to identify roles that Jacuba can still perform, noting that his 15 years of service equips him with valuable expertise. The President likewise instructed the Department of National Defense to review and reform the CDD policy to ensure that injured soldiers are not automatically separated from service without due recognition of their sacrifice. Marcos: Ang naging susi rito ay ang coordination between the different agencies, ‘yun lagi ang pinakamahalaga, because the different agencies are working all together all the way up to the end. Because ang end consumer nito ay DSWD kaya mula rito pupunta tayo doon naman sa pagdi-distribute nitong nahuling smuggled na isda, para ipamigay na lang natin. Dahil ganito karami, kung bibigyan natin ang bawat, halimbawa, pamilya o bawat tao ng tig-i-isang kilo, makakapagbigay tayo ng isang kilo sa 580,000 na tao. Kaya’t ‘yan ang gagawin natin. Ibibigay natin, halimbawa, sa evacuation centers, doon sa mga ospital, ibibigay natin sa BUCOR—lahat ‘yan, para hindi naman masayang. Na-inspection na ito, safe for human consumption habang pwede pa.
