Rubio: We Discussed Restarting Direct U.S.-Lebanon Flights with Aoun U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the talks focused on attracting more U.S. and international investment to Lebanon, as well as the possibility of restarting direct flights between the United States and Lebanon. “We’re going to start a process with them and see if that’s possible and when that can be done,” Rubio said. Direct flights by U.S. airlines to Lebanon have been suspended since 1985, when the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) banned such flights and prohibited U.S. aircraft from landing at Beirut International Airport due to the deteriorating security situation at the time, particularly following the hijacking of a Trans World Airlines (TWA) flight.
