“It is my honor to be your Sheriff, and to serve the people of Polk County. I want to provide you with some educational material about Amendment 3. I work for you, and I’m gonna do exactly what you tell me to do because you’re the boss. But I wanted you to know a few things about this Amendment before you vote.” - Grady Judd, Sheriff

Ace is coming home!!! Our K9 hero Ace was shot & critically injured protecting deputies and our community on Thursday night……it’s Sunday now, and he’s coming home. The bad guy who shot Ace was eliminated by his handler and two other deputies at the scene. Ace’s life was saved through the incredible work of a whole lot of people: his loyal partner, Deputy Natalie Oestreich, who quickly attended to his wounds & carried him to safety; the amazing staff and Dr. Aguayo at Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Lakeland who stopped his bleeding & stabilized him; the outstanding Tampa General Hospital @ Aeromed crew who got him quickly & safely to the amazing Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch, where Dr. Diaz performed the several-hour-long surgery to amputate Ace’s left front leg. Upon waking from the anesthesia, Ace attempted to walk out of there. He has not been deterred since. In fact he outran the camera attempting to film his release this afternoon! We would like to thank the following agencies for accompanying us to pick up Ace today and give him a big “welcome home!” City of Haines City PD LakelandPD Winter Haven PD, HCSO Manatee Sheriff, Manatee Fire Rescue, Dr. Kerry Jackson from Polk County Animal Control, & of course our entire K9 Unit. Thank you well and faithful servant, Ace. You are SUCH a good boy. We love you and will always remember your service and your sacrifice. #PolkSheriff #K9Unit #NatAndAce #WelcomeHome

#BREAKING Five Washington DC teens and their basketball coach arrested in Polk County after investigation of theft conspiracy at Davenport 7-Eleven store: “We welcome anyone who wants to visit or stay in Polk County on vacation. But people need to realize that while you might be able to get away with crimes and foolishness where you live, it won’t fly around here. If you steal in Polk County, we’re going to send you home with a commemorative mug shot from the Polk County Jail.” – Grady Judd, Sheriff

Today was Ace’s first trip back to the SOC since being shot in the line of duty. While he’ll be retiring after having his leg amputated, he’s still as happy and energetic as ever! 🥹 We’re just so thankful Ace and Nat are okay. His days of chasing bad guys may be over, but Ace will always be one of our heroes! #PCSO #K9Unit #NatAndAce

CASE UPDATE: Frostproof triple homicide excerpts from PCSO news conferences and Law&Crime Network live trial coverage. Yesterday, thanks to a lot of hard work by our agency members, the State Attorney’s Office, and the men and women of the jury, justice was served for the families of Brandon, Keven, and Damion. TJ Wiggins was found guilty of first degree murder – three counts - in a court of law by a jury of his peers. One of our forensics investigators who testified said it best: “Six years. Six years for three families to get justice. A defense that attempted to question the integrity and work product we put forth. That night in July six years ago, we worked in less than ideal conditions, for many hours. In closing, the defense said we should be ’ashamed.’ I am not ashamed. I am proud! I stand shoulder to shoulder with the absolute best in the business. This is not a win for an individual at the Sheriff’s Office. This is justice for three families that waited far too long to see it. Today is a reminder of why we work so hard. It is not for personal recognition or accolades. It is all in the name of giving families some kind of closure. To all who had a hand in this case, big or small, it mattered. We saw it through to the end. May these families finally have peace.” Now we wait to see what the penalty will be, as we keep these victims' families in our prayers. #FrostproofTripleMurder #JusticeIsServed #JusticeforBrandon #JusticeforKeven #JusticeforDamion

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, PCSO deputies arrested 42-year-old Jessica Vlasac of Lakeland, charging her with aggravated child abuse (F1) resulting in the death of a 3-month-old infant who was in her care. According to the affidavit, at approximately 11:58 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026, deputies responded to Vlasac’s home after receiving a report that the baby boy was unresponsive. The baby was transported to Orlando Health Medical in Lakeland and was pronounced deceased shortly after. He had an abrasion and bruising on his head. Vlasac told deputies that she had accidentally fallen asleep with the baby in the bed and that she did not remember anything else, and that when she woke up, she found the baby lying face down on the bed, not moving and cold to the touch. She made statements such as, “I think I killed our son,” and said she believed it happened while she was asleep. An autopsy revealed that the baby had subdural hemorrhaging around the skull. Medical Examiner Dr. Stephen Nelson identified three separate impact injuries to the baby’s head. The impact injuries were located on the top of the forehead. Dr. Nelson also identified a 1.7 cm by 1 cm L-shaped injury to the baby’s forehead, which he stated appeared to be consistent with being caused by a square-like object. After the autopsy, detectives interviewed Vlasac again and observed her wearing a large, diamond-like stone ring on her ring finger that was consistent with the large, square-like shape mentioned in the autopsy. Detectives executed a search warrant for Vlasac’s devices, as well as her ring. During the search, Vlasac spontaneously asked if the ring was what killed the victim. During interviews with other members of the household who were present at the time of the incident, nobody reported noticing anything suspicious. They stated that they assumed Vlasac and the infant were sleeping in Vlasac’s room and that they were unaware of anything happening until they heard her screaming. In an interview with the infant’s father, he described Vlasac as someone who becomes violent when she consumes alcohol. The father showed detectives messages between himself and Vlasac from the night of the incident. The messages showed that Vlasac had purchased alcoholic shots at approximately noon that day. Later that night, she sent multiple messages stating that she had killed the infant and that he was dead. She had also deleted some messages. The father stated that Vlasac called him a few days later and seemed unusually normal when discussing the death. He also said she asked him not to show detectives their messages. In a follow-up examination, Dr. Nelson examined the ring that had been confiscated from Vlasac and advised that the victim’s injuries were consistent with being struck by the ring, as a part of the impact injuries. Furthermore, there was no evidence of co-sleeping causing the death. Vlasac was taken into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Judd weighs in on a situation that happened this past weekend in Chicago, when a Chief of Patrol Operations at the Chicago Police Department got on the radio and instructed his officers NOT TO RESPOND to assist federal agents who were under attack. Here’s the actual audio: This would never happen here in our community, and it should never happen anywhere else.
