I deplore much of what Ann Widdecombe stood for, but I've never been able to see her the same way since this legendary Harry and Paul sketch, which really nails how she became a lazy punchline for a generation of smug comedians, largely based on sexist swipes at her looks. R.I.P.

I'm sorry, but this is simply lovely, and I've no time for those who'll inevitably sneer at it as "Paddingtonism", or whatever. Like it or not, this is the version of Britain most British people identify with. Good on his M the K for participating, too.

I know I bang on about this a lot, but: look at the sheer comic density, in this minute-long clip. I count at least eight solid gags, averaging one every seven-and-a-half seconds. Compare that to a normal sitcom, where one joke at a time drags itself onscreen and just sits there.

To my mind, the final word on this historic occasion was the (almost) final scene of Derry Girls, which I find intensely moving. The brief return of Liam Neeson as the RUC officer is a wonderful touch, as is the closing shot of Grandpa Joe playing with the youngest family member.

Did you know that, in 1991, Timmy Mallett, of Wacaday and "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" fame, tried explaining apartheid to children? The real plot twist is... he did a pretty great job of it. An exceptional job, in fact. They should have shown this in schools.

In honour of the late Prince of Darkness, here's a fantastic story Rick Wakeman once told about him, on Have I Got News For You. Apologies for the TikTok-esque format, it's the only version I could find online. #OzzyOsbourneRIP

A great sketch can nail a concept so well, it becomes the final word. Since 1998, nobody has had to say or write another word about boorish, drunken British people in Indian restaurants, because Goodness Gracious Me's "Going For an English" was a literally unimprovable statement.

I just came across this video of "Jolene" played at 33 rpm. It's haunting and oddly magnificent. One of the comments said, "Billy Cyrus out here just tryna keep his man", which tickled me.

It's hardly a crowded field, but this Comic Relief sketch from 2007 is probably the gold standard of (intentional) prime ministerial comedy. Credit where it's due: Blair's mere presence would have sufficed, but he actually went to the effort of playing his part properly. Respect.
