On this day in 2007, Prince performed a medley of hits at the Super Bowl XLI Halftime show in Miami, including "Let's Go Crazy," "Baby I'm A Star," "1999" and covers of "Proud Mary," "All Along The Watchtower," and "Best of You." The 12-minute show concluded with a legendary version of “Purple Rain” unleashed during a driving rainstorm.

On this day in 1987, Prince released "If I Was Your Girlfriend," the second single off his 9th studio album Sign O' The Times. The song was originally from the Camille album, which was written to be released under the guise of Prince's alter ego named Camille. The single reached #20 in the UK and #67 in America.

On this day in 1997, Prince guest starred on Muppets Tonight. He was the first guest star on Season Two of Muppets Tonight, then going under the name "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince." This guest appearance allowed Prince to show his effortless knack for comedy and perform songs alongside Kermit the Frog, Rizzo the Rat, and several other muppets. Speaking about the first read through of the script with Prince, head writer of Muppets Tonight Kirk Thatcher revealed, “He and his people seemed to get the jokes and enjoyed the fun we were having with him and he thankfully had very few notes. He just smiled and giggled quietly at the script and seemed very open to it all.” 💜

On this day in 1984, Prince released "When Doves Cry," the lead single from his sixth studio album, Purple Rain. The track became Prince’s first #1 hit, spending 21 weeks on the Billboard Top 100 charts, 5 of those at #1. One of Prince's most recognizable songs, bass is notably absent from "When Doves Cry," which was a last minute production choice. “Sometimes your brain kind of splits in two—your ego tells you one thing, and the rest of you says something else. On this day in 1984, the theatrical film companion to Prince’s groundbreaking album Purple Rain was released in theaters. On this day in 2004, Prince embarked on his Musicology Live 2004ever tour to promote his 28th studio album, Musicology. The release, which included tracks like "Call My Name," "Cinnamon Girl," and "Life 'O' The Party," was given to concert goers who attended the performances, while the physical retail version was available in the UK on April 19th, and in the US on April 20th. "Musicology is all about music the way it used to be and it’s about getting the music to the people. That’s why everyone who comes to the show gets a copy of the record. The CD is included in the ticket price, and we’re giving out approximately 50,000 copies each week in order to keep increasing the exposure to the new album." - Prince We’ll be highlighting all 12 tracks on the album starting with the title track.
