Released just 12 months after Dirty Mind, Controversy demonstrated Prince's evolving worldview and further demonstrated a growing resistance to the political tensions that shaped the era. Today marks the 35th anniversary of Diamonds and Pearls! 💜 Released in 1991, the thirteenth studio album was the first to feature The New Power Generation. Diamonds and Pearls was a commercial success, as it received platnium certification in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and France. On this day in 1992, Prince and the New Power Generation released Love Symbol. The album title, techincally unpronounceable, was referred to as Love Symbol due to the language included on the CD's spine that read "Love Symbol Album". Upon the release of Love Symbol, Prince debuted iconic tracks such as Sexy M.F. and My Name Is Prince. With many other funky and vibrant tracks to name, let us know your favorite!

On this day in 2007, Prince performed a medley of hits at the Super Bowl XLI Halftime show in Miami, including "Let's Go Crazy," "Baby I'm A Star," "1999" and covers of "Proud Mary," "All Along The Watchtower," and "Best of You." The 12-minute show concluded with a legendary version of “Purple Rain” unleashed during a driving rainstorm.

On this day in 1987, Prince released "If I Was Your Girlfriend," the second single off his 9th studio album Sign O' The Times. The song was originally from the Camille album, which was written to be released under the guise of Prince's alter ego named Camille. The single reached #20 in the UK and #67 in America.

On this day in 1997, Prince guest starred on Muppets Tonight. He was the first guest star on Season Two of Muppets Tonight, then going under the name "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince." This guest appearance allowed Prince to show his effortless knack for comedy and perform songs alongside Kermit the Frog, Rizzo the Rat, and several other muppets. Speaking about the first read through of the script with Prince, head writer of Muppets Tonight Kirk Thatcher revealed, “He and his people seemed to get the jokes and enjoyed the fun we were having with him and he thankfully had very few notes. He just smiled and giggled quietly at the script and seemed very open to it all.” 💜

On this day in 1984, Prince released "When Doves Cry," the lead single from his sixth studio album, Purple Rain. The track became Prince’s first #1 hit, spending 21 weeks on the Billboard Top 100 charts, 5 of those at #1.
