Till now, in politics, I have never addressed my comments at any individual contesting against me or our party in elections, be it 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022 or 2024. Our approach has always been clear: who we are, what we do, and why people should vote for us. However, after the continuous parroting of “nothing has been done for Madurai” by those devoid of principles, shifting across parties, lacking understanding of the constituency, unaware of how administration functions at various levels, and empty of data, history or analysis, I believe my primary duty now is to bring light and dispel the ignorance being spread through paid promotion (Among others, Sandhya Ravishankar Vinodh Arulappan Rahul of Chennai Updates – I will name and tag the brokers in due course). Therefore, from now until the end of my campaign, every rally will serve as an “Introduction to Madurai” lesson for the “Cinema Sangi,” while also unmasking a caste-ist party run solely to provide political protection for one person with a disreputable (to say the least) background.

Continuation of my statement of 22nd April, 2023

For those of you who haven't seen the full story, here is the second half. Thiru K.Annamalai - who routinely propagates half-truths, twisted versions, and whole lies in a vain attempt to further his propaganda in our developed state - left out the conclusion of the clip which contains the political reasoning for our language policy. Only those with a cultist affliction would believe that there's truth in his post, when full details of the incident have already been widely published online in print and video format. If only he cared to be properly informed before posting, or had any concern about not spreading misleading material.... Also, no one was evicted. Every time I said "wait ✋️" I was asking for the person who asked the question to be given the chance to respond. The person returned to his seat and stayed there not just until the end of my session but also attended subsequent sessions. Many more TN BJP heads after this one may come and go, but Tamil Nadu will never waver from her two-language policy and accept a COMPULSORY three language policy, which is the proven route to thrusting Hindi down our throats, and trying to diminish our mother தமிழ், as has happened to the native languages of Hindi-belt states.

There was an India before this Bill. The India that comes after this Bill strikes at the very fabric of our Constitution and the intent of its makers. Today, the government is asking us to hand over a blank cheque. This Bill contains no clear mention of limits such as a 50% increase, no clarity on the basis of delimitation, and no transparent safeguards to prevent arbitrary action. It leaves open the possibility of an unfair, unjust delimitation process and places enormous power in the hands of a committee that will be appointed by the executive itself. How can this be called fair in a functioning democracy? How are we expected to trust a government that, over the past 12 years, has repeatedly pushed through draconian laws without meaningful consultation or consensus in Parliament? Laws that reshape institutions, alter balances of power, and weaken the spirit of federalism! As Chief Minister Thiru M.K.Stalin has rightly said, this is a fight we are prepared to take to the streets and to the people of Tamil Nadu. Because when faith in the parliamentary process is eroded, the responsibility to defend constitutional values must return to the people themselves. #Delimitation #TNWillFightTNWillWin

Tuesday was a black day for India. Friday has seen redemption in measures I could not have imagined. For the first time in more than 30 years, a bill introduced by the government has failed to pass in the Lok Sabha. I am glad that it is this bill, which was conceived with malicious intent and without any logic, that has been defeated. Parties that would ordinarily have been convinced of short-term benefits from an increase in seats have upheld oppositon unity to control the dictatorial tendencies of the government. It is a sign that a politics of principles still exists in India, that there is still hope for a brighter future. This is the turning point we have been waiting for. When he launched the election campaign, Chief Minister Thiru M.K.Stalin said “Tamil Nadu shall fight, Tamil Nadu shall win.” Today, I am grateful to say: Tamil Nadu has fought, Tamil Nadu has won. India has fought, India has won. PS: I am glad to be back in a white shirt, as the April heat in Madurai is not conducive to black shirts

Had a great conversation with Mr. Karan Thapar (The Wire) about Tamil Nadu’s firm stance on the three-language policy and the concerns surrounding delimitation. Our state’s approach is rooted in linguistic rights, federalism, and equitable representation. Watch the full interview here:

Had a great time engaging in thought-provoking conversation with my friend & MP Shashi Tharoor at @mbifl2023, 4Feb. Federalism in India is an issue of pressing importance to people's lives & standing up for state's rights has been at the heart of the Dravidian movement's ideology

Impact After Term | 16 : Transforming Madurai into a Regional Technology Hub Madurai has long stood as one of the world's oldest living cities and a symbol of Tamil civilisation. As the elected representative of Madurai Central, Dr. PTR believed that the city's future should be defined not only by its rich history, but also by technology, innovation and knowledge-based employment. As Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, he worked towards extending Tamil Nadu's IT growth beyond Chennai, with a special focus on transforming Madurai into a regional technology and innovation hub. This vision was pursued through a combination of institutional investments, industry partnerships and strategic interventions. Alongside the establishment of the iTNT Hub Regional Centre to nurture Deep Tech innovation in southern Tamil Nadu, sustained efforts attracted new technology companies, enabled existing firms to expand and strengthened Madurai's innovation ecosystem. Today, the Madurai ELCOT SEZ alone supports more than 4,000 IT jobs. Four landmark initiatives launched in February 2026 by then Hon'ble Chief Minister Thiru. M.K.Stalin reflected this broader transformation. Among them was the ₹150 crore Pinnacle Infotech Global Centre of Excellence at the Madurai ELCOT IT Park. Having already created nearly 1,500 local jobs after commencing operations in Madurai in 2023, the company chose the city for the next phase of its AI-enabled Building Information Modelling (BIM) operations—reflecting growing confidence in Madurai's talent pool and technology ecosystem. Complementing this, the ₹50 lakh HP Centre of Excellence was established at Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women through HP's CSR initiative in partnership with ICT Academy. The centre equips women students from Madurai and neighbouring districts with industry-ready digital skills, helping bridge the gap between education and employment while strengthening the talent pipeline for the region's expanding technology sector. Pinnacle Infotech also laid the foundation for Tamil Nadu's first dedicated women's residential campus within an IT Special Economic Zone, accommodating around 1,200 women professionals and creating the support infrastructure needed to encourage greater participation of women in the technology workforce. A long-standing land constraint that had limited industrial expansion was also addressed. When HCLTech sought to expand its operations in Madurai, the availability of suitable land had become a major challenge. Through Dr. PTR's intervention, underutilised land originally allotted to Honeywell was reclaimed and allotted to HCLTech through ELCOT, paving the way for a ₹150 crore expansion project on 2.41 acres at the Ilanthaikulam SEZ. The project is expected to create 1,000 additional technology jobs while transforming idle land into productive investment. Taken together, these initiatives have helped reshape Madurai's technology landscape. By bringing together global investment, skill development, women's participation and employment generation, they continue to create opportunities for thousands of young people across Madurai and southern Tamil Nadu—an impact that extends well beyond the tenure in which these initiatives were undertaken. — Admin Team

Impact After Term | 17 : From Completing Long-Pending Projects to Building Future-Ready IT Infrastructure For over two decades, ELCOT has played a pivotal role in expanding Tamil Nadu's IT ecosystem beyond Chennai by developing IT parks and Special Economic Zones across Tier-II and Tier-III cities. As global technology companies increasingly sought world-class plug-and-play office spaces, the State announced new ELCOT IT Towers in Sholinganallur (2017) and later in Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli (2020). However, these projects remained stalled for several years due to administrative delays, environmental clearances and the COVID-19 pandemic. After assuming office as Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services in 2023, Dr. Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR) brought the projects under direct review, resolved pending administrative issues and accelerated construction. The results followed in quick succession. The Tiruchirappalli ELCOT IT Tower (₹59.57 crore; 1.16 lakh sq. ft.) was inaugurated in February 2024, creating infrastructure for 2,800+ IT jobs, strengthening Tiruchirappalli's position as an emerging technology destination. This was followed by the Coimbatore ELCOT IT Tower (₹158.32 crore; 2.94 lakh sq. ft.) in November 2024, with capacity for 3,500+ IT jobs and , 100% of its office space had already been leased on the very day of inauguration, reflecting strong industry demand. In February 2026, the Sholinganallur ELCOT IT Tower (₹88.21 crore; 2.33 lakh sq. ft.) was inaugurated, adding infrastructure for another 3,200+ IT jobs, further expanding Chennai's technology ecosystem. Beyond completing long-pending infrastructure projects, efforts also focused on preparing Tamil Nadu for the next phase of technology-led growth. As Finance Minister, Dr. PTR announced the TN Tech City project in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2023–24, envisioning a world-class technology district to attract global technology companies and investments. This vision was further strengthened at UmagineTN 2025, where the Hon'ble Chief Minister announced a 20 lakh sq. ft. AI-Focused IT Park at Vilankurichi, Coimbatore, aimed at supporting the State's rapidly growing Artificial Intelligence ecosystem. Together, these initiatives transformed years of pending projects into productive infrastructure. Three ELCOT IT Towers were completed, creating capacity for nearly 9,500 high-quality IT jobs, while new initiatives such as TN Tech City and the AI-Focused IT Park laid the foundation for Tamil Nadu's next chapter as one of India's leading technology and digital innovation hubs. — Admin Team

Uncle, I will always remember you! – The youngest member of the tour group affected by the tragedy After God saved us from this fire, we have been so well looked after by all of you. We are truly grateful. We hope we will have MLAs & Ministers like you in our state. – Adult survivors When tragedies occur, the humane, quintessentially Tamil response is to aid the victims as if they were members of our immediate family. As a descendant of this magnanimous culture where helping people in distress is built into our DNA, as a former executive and administrator with decades of professional experience, as the MLA of the constituency where the tragedy occurred, and as a person who seeks to build bridges, I was gratified that I could do my part to the post-event recovery and relief efforts following the tragic fire which destroyed the entire compartment/coach in which a group of 64 tourists were traveling on a chartered pilgrimage tour, along with some employees of the tour operator. Though I was in Chennai when the tragedy occurred, I happened to travel to Madurai on the same flight as Thiru R N Singh, the General Manager of the Southern Railways, who was also on his way to support the relief efforts. Traveling and working closely with him and his team (including the DRM, Madurai) over the rest of the day, we were able to combine the measures authorised by the Hon’ble CM M.K.Stalin, and the usual measures and resources of the IRCTC and Railways, to do our best to the survivors, as well as preserve the dignity and ensure the rapid return of the deceased to their homes. For his help in releasing the mortal remains of the deceased in record time after post-mortem and inquest, I thank the Dean of the Madurai Medical College and Rajaji Hospital, and the Commissioner of Police, Madurai. I thank the DIG CISF Chennai for his humanitarian role in ensuring the remains were sent quickly from Chennai to Lucknow, and for requesting that the Sr Comdt CISF ASG Lucknow help from his end to deliver them to the grieving families. I also want to highly commend the Mayor of Madurai Corporation Mrs Indrani Ponvasanth, who personally led the many officers of the Corporation (starting with the CHO and the Medical Team who provided not just Medical Treatment but also psychological counselling using members of the tour party and staff of Southern Railways who could translate where needed) for providing triage, basic support, relief material, medicines and other help to the affected people – throughout the day, and up till their departure in batches over the next day. We were even able to arrange a visit to the Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman temple for those devotees who requested one before their return by flight (arranged by the IRCTC) over the next 24 to 36 hours – as that was the reason for the tour to have come to Madurai in the first place. I got to see off the last batch of about 20 survivors at the Airport, as they waited for their flight to New Delhi, and then onwards to Lucknow, the point of the tour’s origin. The quotations above, mentioned by them during that last send-off, were a timely reminder that compassion and empathy are the essence of humanity, and of public service. They transcend all boundaries of language, region, or culture. Every crisis is a testing time. Every crisis also brings us together as one. Unlike some who look to exploit every development for propaganda & political gain, our millennia-old Tamil Culture always guides us to humane and thoughtful actions. A thorough investigation, and consequent actions to avoid the risk of such tragedies in the future, must be undertaken. I hope and trust the Railways will do so diligently.

In my conversation with Karan Thapar for The Wire , I spoke about the serious concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision now underway in Tamil Nadu. A paper-heavy exercise that requires thousands of voter verifications per BLO cannot be rushed through the monsoon with limited training and stretched capacity. Under such conditions, the poorest and least connected citizens face the greatest risk of being left out. I also highlighted the worrying mid-process rule changes by the Election Commission, such as permitting booth agents who are not local voters. This can open the door for elements with no local standing to enter the process, and it is clearly one-sided in a state where the BJP has the weakest bench of booth agents. I expressed my profound concern that the quality of democracy, and the very facets and safeguards that sustain it, are eroding rapidly. At the core of this decline is the weakening of independent institutions, which ultimately determine good economic outcomes, stable growth, and sustained social harmony and development. Impact After Term | 03 : Reducing the Revenue Deficit While Expanding Welfare When the DMK Government assumed office in 2021, Tamil Nadu was confronting one of the gravest fiscal crises in its history amid the devastating second wave of COVID-19. The State inherited a revenue deficit of nearly ₹62,000 crore alongside severe economic distress. With the support and guidance of the then Chief Minister Thiru. M.K.Stalin, Dr. Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR), as Minister for Finance & Human Resources Management, pursued structural reforms and welfare expansion despite severe fiscal constraints. The White Paper on State Finances released in August 2021 exposed the scale of fiscal stress and laid the foundation for long-term reforms, including data-centric governance measures aimed at improving beneficiary targeting and reducing leakages. Even during this crisis, the Government implemented welfare measures on an unprecedented scale — ₹4,000 COVID relief assistance and grocery support for 2.1 crore ration cardholders at a total cost of ₹9,370 crore; nearly ₹9,000 crore towards crop, jewel, and SHG loan waivers; over ₹2,200 crore for free bus travel for women; ₹698 crore for Pudhumai Penn; and a ₹3 per litre reduction in petrol tax despite an annual revenue impact of ₹1,160 crore. Despite these large-scale welfare commitments, unprecedented and difficult fiscal reforms helped reduce the inherited annual revenue deficit by roughly half within two years — demonstrating that fiscal discipline and social welfare need not be pursued at the expense of one another. — Admin Team

Yesterday, I mentioned that the opinion polls were skewed with inaccurate figures and were merely coordinated advertisements. Today, the gap between the emerging numbers and the predicted ones confirms my statement. In a democracy, people cannot be misled by manipulative tactics forever.

In the 5th part of my concluding speech on 28 March in the TN Assembly, I spoke on wide-ranging topics: the role of the opposition and how dissent is the essence of a democracy; the necessity to bring in reforms within PSUs; tariff hikes; the misuse of beneficiary programs meant for farmers and the necessity to curtail such malfeasance; and the importance of social justice while bringing about reforms. I also pointed out that if we were to increase the debt without bringing in any change in production, it would amount to creating inflation. We all know that inflation is a cruel, indirect tax on the poor; therefore, creating inflation is a betrayal of social justice.

In response to a question on the expansion of Coimbatore airport, I noted that our state would only lease the needed land to the AAI/Union Govt, and not transfer ownership to them, as before. The lease would include a clause that the lease amount would be kept at a minimum token value as long as the airport was operated by AAI itself. If the Union Govt decides to hand over the airport to private players, the lease payments to Tamil Nadu would go up to reflect the then-prevailing market value of the land, or we should get an equity stake in the airport equivalent to the then-prevailing value of the land. And that TN has declined AAI’s suggestion that they should have the right to sub-lease the land to a private operator (at the concessional lease rent) without our consent (and at the token value lease payment). (Part 1 of my concluding speech on 28 March 2023)
