I’ve debated posting this clip for a long time. We had a really good back and forth, and I don’t disrespect Joel. Maybe I’ll get some heat from that from my corner of the Right. But I personally don’t find him to be operating in bad faith. I just don’t think Joel is as well read as he thinks he is concerning the founders and what they thought. It’s pertinent to the video in the OP because Joel refuses to say whether the founders were “racist” by his own definition of racism. Then he goes on to quote Thomas Jefferson. But in this clip when presented with a quote of Thomas Jefferson’s that is barely given a modern rewording, he is completely unaware that Jefferson said it. Which is really the entire issue in a nutshell. All Joel has are cookie cutter quotes from select statements by the founders that are palatable to modern sensitivities. This isn’t uncommon. A quote in the Jefferson Memorial in DC cuts off a massive portion that provides it a context that would not be acceptable in today’s America. Joel, like many on the “Right”, is a conservative. He’s just not sure what he’s conserving. H/T Kaiser von Lohengramm
