🇺🇬 “WE ARE RESETTING PARLIAMENT BACK TO THE FACTORY DEFAULT.” Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth says Parliament is being reset to what it was intended to be. He says his office will no longer operate as a donation centre, adding that those seeking help should write to President Museveni, whom he described as “the chief donor of Government.” The Speaker says committee funds will instead be strengthened to reduce MPs’ dependence on ministries, departments and agencies they are supposed to supervise. “There is nothing demeaning as asking for kitu kidogo from those who are supposed to supervise.” He says MPs risk being compromised when agencies appearing before Parliament give them money. Why it matters: the Speaker is framing this as an accountability reset, saying Parliament must protect its oversight role by reducing financial dependence on the very institutions it scrutinises.
