Bog word of the day is ombrotrophic. Ombros (Greek)= rain shower; Trophic from trophikós= nutrition. Bogs (unlike other wetlands like fens) are ombrotrophic & receive all water & nutrient inputs from precipitation. This fosters unique chemistry & species like meat eating plants.

I love bogs because they -are weird and unstable -were considered portals to the gods -are beautiful in an eerie way -are storytellers -are powerful enough to control Earth’s climate -are vulnerable and need protection. Save bogs to save ourselves.
