From a #prison torture interrogator under the #Assad regime to a hairdresser turning her work from torturing #women to beautifying their faces. The story of the transformation of a former #prison guard in #Syria named Hala Mounir Mohammad, who worked during the period of the former regime in a detention facility belonging to #Syrian #Air #Force Intelligence in #Damascus. Former female detainees have given testimonies accusing her of serious violations, including torture, humiliation, deprivation of food and medical care, and the use of harsh torture methods such as the “dulab” (tire method) and severe beatings, in addition to extorting detainees’ families. According to these accounts, Hala, known inside the prison as “Mounira,” had previously participated in military operations before moving to prison work, where she became known for her violent behavior and for boasting about her actions. After the fall of the former regime, her life took a different path, and she began working as a hairdresser in the ##Mazzeh 86 neighborhood in #Damascus, which shocked survivors who later came forward with their testimonies. Following media investigations and multiple witness accounts, Internal #Security Forces arrested her, and she is currently on trial on charges related to crimes and abuses committed during her previous role.
