One of the most horrific crashes in NASCAR history as Steve Grissom gets turned down the back stretch at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1997. This was the final race on the original configuration. The great Benny Parsons with his trademark commentary and analysis of the crash.

Spectacular side by side racing Richmond Raceway as Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon battle for the lead in 2003. Also, pay attention to the commentary towards the end. Everyone at the time agreed this car/track type was the formula for great stock car racing. We obviously went in a different direction in the years following.

To grow NEW fans and reignite the sport, we need BADASS racing on the track—like the door-banging, bumper to bumper magic we see here Hickory Motor Speedway in 1997. We need drivers showcasing elite car control. That means a car that actually allows those skills to shine. Sure, the championship format matters for legitimacy and keeping current fans invested. But let’s be real… The #1 priority for NASCAR’s future has to be redesigning the Cup car. We need racing that makes people want to tune in, bring their friends, and create the next generation of die-hard fans.
