I'm watching the Military Parade on 14th July for decades. This one, today, was the most spectacular and big I've seen. But also the sadest. Why? Because it marks the separation from America. Nobody from Washington was there : no leaders, no troops. It was exactly what the present US administration opted for : a separation from Europe. Without a strong NATO on both sides of the Atlantic, our future is troubled, our peace unsure. 82 years ago, America, Canada and other allies liberated #France from Nazi. Tens of thousands of young soldiers died for a free Europe. Now, this huge sacrifice is forgoten. I could never imagine a French military parade without US troops, now when Russia is waging a bloody war in Europe. It is the time for more solidarity, not for a divorce. But US administration attacks on European allies encouraged them to find they're own way. 35 nations were there in Paris, with boots on the ground and leaders watching. The child is leaving home, after too many argues with the parents. Will Europe succeed without US? Will NATO survive? We can only fight and pray for this. But today, when looking for the celebration of the #BastilleDay, one eye was laughing, the other one crying. #Europe is for sure stronger, but our long time protector US wants to take a long break in the relation. From #Transatlantic perspective, this "strategic autonomous" parade in Paris has a conclusion : sad moment, great funeral.
