An attack on one woman biker has shaken an entire community. Days after Shivani Chauhan — better known as Sia — was chased and rammed by a car on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road, NDTV went back to the streets with Sia and a group of women riders. My colleague Aditi Rajput Aditi Rajput joined them on the ride to understand what draws these women to two wheels — the freedom, the camaraderie and the sheer joy of riding — but also the intimidation, aggression and risks they routinely encounter on our roads. “We saw Lord Shiva’s face on the mountain as the water came hurtling towards us.” A group of 60 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu were travelling in three buses on the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. The whereabouts of around 40 travelling in two of those buses remain unknown. The 21 pilgrims in the third bus had a miraculous escape, scrambling to higher ground as the waters rushed down. I met them at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport as they headed home via Delhi to Chennai — counting their blessings, but deeply worried about those still missing. Some time back, one of our competitors took out an ad highlighting the fact that they had topped one of the viewership rankings. NDTV had come second that month. But the competition was unwilling to acknowledge NDTV’s growth. So they showed themselves on top, followed by the networks that came third and fourth. NDTV was simply left out of the reckoning. Some in the team were angry. I was amused. It reminded me of the oft-quoted adage: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” NDTV

“Do you miss the thrill of anchoring every day?” The editors at exchange4media asked me. My answer: “You can’t be coach, captain and opening batsman all at once.” “When an Editor-in-Chief anchors a daily prime-time show, the newsroom’s energy inevitably revolves around making that single broadcast shine.” To rebuild NDTV, we need to create the space for many superstars to emerge. “Look at Raghav Bahl at Network18 or Aroon Purie at India Today. They were comfortable in their own skin and happy to let others shine. Dr Prannoy Roy was equally comfortable with the stardom of Barkha Dutt and Rajdeep Sardesai.” It’s a core conviction of mine that great institutions are built by creating the space for talented people to grow, shine and even outgrow those who lead them. The NDTV Datafy team mapped the flight path of Air India AI479 to reconstruct the moments when the aircraft briefly crossed into Pakistani airspace during a go-around over Amritsar. Flight-tracking data shows the aircraft remained across the border for about a minute before returning safely. Authorities are now investigating what led to the airspace infringement. #NDTV #Datafy
