In 2016, Major Gen(Rtd) Benon Biraato Buta proposed, in his manifesto, that if elected, he would build fish feeds factories and feed the fish in our lakes and rivers. To us Karimojongs who believe in cows, his ideas seem to be far-fetched and out of reality. China is the leading country in aquaculture in natural waters. Indonesia feeds fish in its rivers and lakes and produces in excess of 15 million MT tones of fish. We produce about 15k MT from our aquaculture. Egypt does it as many others. We earn only about USD150m. Our true potential is about USD 4-5bn. It is only in a country, blessed with fresh water lakes and rivers more than any other in the continent, where our ambitions stops at building a single carriage 7 year lifespan roads and chest thump the whole 5 years until next operation to select the next round of leaders. Countries only transform when its leaders set ambitions so high and start to do extraordinary things. Anyways, we are told PDM is now going to be 200m. Go grab it as it lasts.
