The tiger is a monk. It won't bother you, or be bothered by you. It tries to maintain its composure as much as it can. Even if you are around it, it will most likely be unfazed. And even when a tiger expresses its aggression, it is mock. It's a construct.

It took more than 6 months to get the jump start executed. The female bird in Naliya, Gujrat was ringed. The bird gave an infertile egg. Incubated fertile at 37 degree C was taken from Sam, Rajasthan to Naliya by road covering 770 kms in 19 hours. The sterile egg was swapped with incubated fertile egg. It was nuanced and challenging task. Kudos to team WII, FD Gujarat and FD Rajasthan.

Swift Inter-Departmental Action Saves Swept-Away Elephant Family in Katarniaghat, UP On August 25, 2026, at approximately 10:20 AM, Katarniaghat Range Headquarters received a wireless message via the Kailashpuri Barrier reporting that a herd of elephants—comprising 3 adults and 2 calves—were being swept by the strong river current towards the Girjapuri Barrage in Kaudiyala river. Current was too strong for the calves and they were flowing with it. The adults too followed them possibly to save them but even they were finding it difficult to swim. Upon receiving this information, RO Katarniaghat immediately proceeded to the Girjapuri Barrage with a team of forest personnel. To counter the strong river flow, irrigation department was promptly contacted. Irrigation department was very swift and prompt and immediately closed the barrage gate thereby halting the rapid current. Once the current slowed down, adult elephants quickly got in control of the situation and guided the young calves to safety. Subsequently, by creating noise and commotion (hanka), the herd—which had reached the vicinity of the barrage gates—was driven back into the forest area. The herd of wild elephants has safely moved into the forest zone. Credit goes to entire Range staff for their quick thinking and prompt action and irrigation department for their prompt support.

Tigers were raining in Pilibhit as someone said after his recent visit to the reserve. Tigers could be seen in everywhere even crossing Sharda canal. When I got first tiger census done there in 2001, we could hardly get 17 tigers and now it’s 60 plus.

Difficult for mother tigress to handle cubs when they are too young like this. Usually she keeps them concealed or away from prying eyes. Interesting visuals.

Those who talk of coexistence while discussing the human wildlife conflicts must see how the cultural ethos in Indian societies has already instilled it for centuries.

Sloth bears are known for carrying their cubs on their back. It is believed that they do so to protect their cubs from predators, which also goes with an uncertain belief about their poor eye sights. Nevertheless it’s heart warming see them doing so.

Great Indian Bustard was one of the forerunners to become National Bird of India but lost the race to Peafowl. Particularly because of apprehension of getting mispronounced. Hardly hundreds to them are left in the wild now. #NaturalHistory
