The Pandits used to that they could manifest the Devi (goddess). To dispel their illusion, Guru Ji ordered the Samgari (materials) for a Havan (sacred fire ritual) and had Pandit Kesho Das begin the ceremony. After 2-3 months had passed, Pandit Kesho Das declared that the Devi was about to appear and that Guru Ji would need to sacrifice someone very dear to him. Guru Ji replied, “Pandit Ji, who could be dearer to us than you?” Upon hearing this, Pandit Kesho Das after some fled from the place. Guru Ji then poured all the remaining Havan Smagari into the Hawan Kund. After that, Guru Ji returned, raised his Kirapan (sword) in his hand, and declared: “This is the Devi. This is Chandi, who protects us from the enemy.”
