Wildlife photographer and naturalist Darshan Vengurlekar has documented a rare behaviour among the golden jackal, spotting a canid feasting on jackfruit in Malvan, Sindhudurg district. The golden sighting took place a few days ago. “We have often seen jackals eating fruits found on the ground like mango, cashew, jamun, bor or karvande.Jackals do not have to work hard to eat them. But eating fruits with shells requires more effort, that is why jackals are not often seen eating jackfruit or coconuts.
