Outrageous ball from Tom Taylor 🤯 First ball of the innings and George Thomas has no idea. This is why cricket is the best sport. Be honest… would you have survived this?

Remember this when Marlon Samuels really gave Ben Stokes the "thank you for your service" send-off. 💀 The commentators losing it in the background makes this clip 10x better. 😭😂

This might be the best village cricket video we’ve ever seen 😂 One late dive. One man fully on the floor. Nobody even looks surprised. That’s village cricket. 📹 @maidavalecricketclub

Oh how we're missing village cricket!😂 Village cricket never needed DRS. Just vibes, chaos and an umpire already celebrating.

The Sandpaper Incident - one of the darkest days in cricket history. The day Australian cricket’s “win at all costs” culture finally exploded in front of the cameras. Cape Town, March 2018. South Africa are batting in the second innings of the third Test. Faf du Plessis is at the crease, and something feels off. The ball is doing things it shouldn’t. Seaming, reversing, behaving unnaturally. Faf looks stunned — almost confused — because he’s already been in trouble himself for ball management in the past, and he knows what normal reverse looks like. This wasn’t normal. What the cameras then caught was Cameron Bancroft pulling out a piece of yellow sandpaper from his pocket and roughing up the ball. When he realised he was on the big screen, he panicked and shoved it down his trousers. At the end of the day, Steve Smith and Bancroft faced the media and tried to downplay it. They said it was tape and dirt. It wasn’t. It was sandpaper, and the plan had come from the leadership group during the lunch break. David Warner was later found to be the main architect. Smith knew about it and didn’t stop it. Cricket Australia hit them hard: Smith and Warner got 12-month bans (plus leadership bans), Bancroft got nine months. The Australian public turned on their own team. The Prime Minister got involved. Players were reduced to tears at the airport. The “spirit of cricket” talk suddenly felt very real. South Africa still went on to win the series 3-1, but the story that stuck wasn’t their victory — it was Australia’s collapse of character. Years later, Faf said he felt sorry for Bancroft because the young opener clearly didn’t even know how to do it properly. “Taking sandpaper out of your pocket with cameras everywhere… not the cleverest move.” Ball tampering has always existed in cricket. Players have used mints, zippers, dirt, and saliva for years. But the brazenness of this one, the lying that followed, and the culture that allowed it made Sandpapergate different. It became one of the darkest chapters in modern cricket — not because of one illegal action, but because of how deep the rot went. Do you think the punishments were too harsh, or did Australian cricket need that shock to change? And has the game really moved on from the “whatever it takes” mindset?
