This guy’s story is almost identical to mine. He started as a crossdresser and it escalated into full blown transition late in life. And rather than transition improving his mental health, it’s made him an emotional neurotic mess who’s more dysphoric than ever and constantly self-conscious about whether he passes as a woman. Moreover, this lifestyle choice destroyed his relationship with his family because he’s predicated his happiness on convincing his family that he is something he’s not. This is not a recipe for “authenticity.” This is not “lifesaving healthcare.” Literally the only benefit he’s gotten from transition is that when he’s all dolled up and looks in the mirror he feels a rush of euphoria at how “hot” he looks. Fellas with AGP, I can tell you that rush of euphoria is not worth destroying your life and making you a neurotic mess.

Pseudobisexuality or meta-attraction is the phenomenon where AGP heterosexual men who have only shown interest in women their entire lives will, after coming out as trans, suddenly find men attractive because of how men make them feel more feminine and attractive in contrast. Interestingly, there are men like this who manifest their AGP and meta-attraction not by going down the transition pathway and identifying as a woman but by adopting the cultural signifier of a “gay identity.” So just because someone identifies as “gay” and exclusively dates men does not tell you necessarily whether they are homosexual in the traditional sense of being exclusively same-sex attracted from a young age.

This man’s preferred pronoun is ‘she.’ If you believe society is morally obligated to respect preferred pronouns, ask yourself: why not this guy? Probably because he doesn’t ‘pass.’ But 99% of trans-identifying males don’t pass—it’s just a matter of degree. So what principled reason justifies respecting the pronouns of some but not others? If the standard is avoiding hurt feelings, then either it’s always immoral to reject someone’s preferences, or it’s not. In truth, there’s nothing immoral about using sex-based pronouns for all male trans-identifying individuals.
