Last night, Vice President Kamala Harris lifted our spirits, calling us during our sit-in on the Missouri House floor and sending pizza to keep us going. ❤️ As we stand against an unconstitutional redistricting scheme, her support is a reminder that the struggle for democracy is bigger than any one moment, and that together, we can rise to it.

Today is the first day of floor debate in the Missouri House and Republicans rushed an abortion bill to the floor repeating Trump’s debunked lies about “killing babies after birth.” I stood up and told the truth: It is already illegal to kill someone after birth in Missouri and everywhere in the United States. No state is considering otherwise. Fear-mongering doesn’t change reality. I reminded them that Missourians already spoke loud and clear in 2024 when voters codified reproductive freedom in our state constitution. Having a deep knowledge of the rules of the House, I motioned to send the unconstitutional bill back to committee. Democrats face an uphill fight in Missouri, and we must use every rule, every lever, every tool available to stop extremist bills that ignore the will of the people. Republicans can be mad, but they can’t ask why. My community didn’t send me to Jefferson City to sit quietly, they sent me here to fight for them and that’s exactly what I will keep doing.

Today, Republicans in the Missouri House pushed legislation based on a lie from President Trump that has been repeatedly debunked: The claim of “abortions after birth.” Let’s be clear: In every state in our nation, including Missouri, it is already illegal to kill a child after birth. There is no legislation anywhere in America allowing that. None. So instead of addressing the real challenges Missouri families face, Republican politicians are choosing fear, misinformation, and attacks on doctors and women’s healthcare. I stood on the House floor today to speak the truth. The people of Missouri deserve facts, not political scare tactics.

70+ hours into our sit-in, we were welcomed over Zoom by New Birth Missionary Baptist Church more than 30,000 congregation members strong. 🙏🏾 It was an honor, and it was history. In this moment, with our democracy on the line, we felt the power of faith and community standing with us. Republicans may try to silence Missourians with a Trump ordered gerrymander, but this movement is bigger than their politics. It’s about justice, it’s about history, and it’s about all of us choosing to rise together. We are not alone in this fight and we’re not backing down.

I get that “owning the libs” is a thing for Republicans. But in reality, republicans have held a majority in the Missouri legislature for more than 20 years. Pretending that Missouri is “too woke” won’t lower the cost of groceries and is a waste of time. #MoLeg I was annoyed.
