Iowa State has been a torture chamber for NBA draft picks. Prior to its matchup tonight vs. Houston, the Cyclones held projected first rounds picks to: 12.6 PPG 1.6 AST 2.4 TOVS 0.6 AST:TO 47.1 TS% Flemings is the only premier prospect to find success against a defense that has engulfed everyone in its wake. Tonight he finished with: 22 Points (9-15 FG, 4-6 3PT) 5 Rebounds 4 AST (3 TOVS) 73.3 TS% But they didn’t make it easy. He had to problem solve and make tough shot after tough shot. PG1?

I imagine this is what Kobe would have looked like if he’d played college basketball

Legitimately blitzed or doubled on every ball screen in the first half.

I’ll continue to stress that I think the biggest concern with Cameron Boozer is his defensive, not offensive, projection. His struggles to affect shots at the rim in drop, or move his feet on the perimeter, hurt Duke until the very end tonight. North Carolina put him into actions consistently tonight (especially with Ngongba out) and found success.

I’m taking AJ over every prospect listed outside of Luka Ben and maybe Cade. What do y’all think?

I think Cameron Boozer played his worst defensive game of the season tonight. Displayed a lack of awareness, inability to affect shots at the rim, and got burned on switches. Doesn't have the size/length to be a true anchor, so I'll be monitoring his help defense and switchability.

Iowa State Freshman Killyan Toure gave Bennett Stirtz, one of the best offensive players in the country, major problems tonight. This is teach tape on screen navigation and ball denial. Toure is one of the best perimeter defenders in the nation and a name to monitor for the 2026 NBA Draft.

AJ Dybantsa averages 23.4 True Shooting Attempts per game. Kansas held him to 16. Self implemented a tremendous defensive game plan. The Jayhawks kept size, length, and athleticism on him at all times with Budinga + Tiller. They sent earlier help on his drives, late help on his mid-post ISOs, and flat-out doubled him at times. They forced the ball out of his hands, and he got it to his teammates — though it was a hair too late at times. But what stood out to me, and what has stood out to me against tougher teams with better athletes, is that Dybansta struggles a bit to create separation/clean looks vs. players of similar size and athleticism. He also picks his dribble up far too often and it leads him to settle for tough 2s, which teams will live with. He needs to either improve his handle, improve his three-point shot, or put on weight. Maybe all three.

Keaton Wagler’s lack of strength and athleticism, are my two biggest concerns for his translation to the NBA as an on-ball creator and I think it shows up on both ends. For a player who plays so methodically and embraces contact he doesn’t generate enough lift off of one foot. As a player who profiles as an under the rim finisher, his in-between game is severely underdeveloped (27.8% on far 2’s vs T100 comp). Defensively, even when he’s in the correct position, players are just able to go through him and he doesn’t have the lift to block shots despite a rumored 6’10 wingspan. He’s still very young, and a late bloomer, so there’s a chance he adds significantly to his frame, but I view him as a risky pick at the top of this draft.

6'4 guard Jeremiah Jones (Jeremiah Jones) has entered the transfer portal with one year of eligiblity after a season in which he was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, led DII in steals (103), and finished second in the nation in steal percentage (6.8%). Jones is a Swiss Army knife who can guard multiple positions, knock down threes, rebound, and provide connective passing. He finished the year averaging 9.2 PPG (57 TS%), 4.5 RPG, 3.0 AST (1.85 AST/TO), and 3.1 SPG. Jones was the driving force of Washburn's second-ranked defense and a key contributor to its 31-2 finish.

AJ Dybantsa played his best game of the season last night vs. Houston. Obviously the scoring was teflon, but it was his passing and decision-making that separated this game from his other great performances. Houston rigorously sent bodies at him and he problem-solved over and over without turning the ball over. His teammates did their best to make sure he didn’t finish with 8+ assists.
