She told him she wanted all the flips, the turns, the Gs. He smiled and said, how about a parabola, and we take Asteroid back to zero G. Her eyes lit up. She wanted to go to space. A month after Liv passed, I was having coffee with my two best friends. They looked at me and said I needed to plan a trip — somewhere I’d always dreamed of going. Without hesitation, I answered: Havasu Falls. I’d wanted to visit for over ten years. I knew how hard the permits were to get… but that very day, while sitting at the coffee shop, I checked the permit site. They opened in exactly one hour. Fate? Destiny? I still don’t know. But I registered right then and somehow got one. Now I’m finally here… and this place is even more breathtaking than I ever imagined. The water, the cliffs, the light — it’s pure magic. I feel so blessed to stand in this beauty… and so deeply sad at the same time. I keep wishing I could text Liv these pictures, tell her every detail, and hear her excitement. It doesn’t feel the same without her. But I’m carrying her with me in my heart, like always.💕 💔💕

She said, “Mom, I have so many things I want to do with my life. I’m not done yet.” The tumor on her knee was so painful. I worried about all the walking. She would not rest. She never complained. She was determined to see as much of Japan as she could. Especially the deer in Nara Park. Her smile. I would give anything to see it again.

Two years ago today, Polaris Dawn launched and they released Liv’s Asteroid video. The Polaris tag still says “In honor of Liv P.” The SpaceX mascot tag says “In memory of Liv P.” She was here to watch Asteroid fly with Polaris Dawn. She was gone before he became the SpaceX mascot. Her name is still on both.
