That’s genuinely sad to hear. Choosing to read Jesus Calling more than the Bible because it feels easier reveals a deeper issue. Its origins and methodology aren’t rooted in sound biblical practice and no devotional should ever replace Scripture itself. Instead of relying on simplified paraphrases we as believers should learn to engage God’s Word directly with faithful teaching and sound commentary instead of substituting it with something softer. I’m thankful Wes has been an influence in Shawn Ryan’s life, and I pray the Lord continues to lead him toward biblically faithful teachers who will shepherd him in truth.
