Recognized today as a defining force in modern Urdu literature, Parveen Shakir was born in 1952, and would later skillfully balance a busy career as a teacher and civil servant with her immense talent as a poet. At just twenty-five, she broke through old traditions with her famous first collection, Khushbu, bravely expressing the deep, often hidden feelings of women and ending a long cultural silence. Her fearless honesty earned her place as a true literary pioneer. Even as she went through the heartbreak of a divorce, Parveen held firmly to her creative freedom, turning her personal struggles into poetry that spoke directly to her readers' hearts. Though her life ended far too soon, she remains an essential cultural icon - a woman who wrote fiercely on her own terms and left an unforgettable mark on the literary world. #ParveenShakir #UrduPoetry #WomenWriters #Khushbu #Rekhta

Born Sampuran Singh Kalra in 1934, Gulzar overcame childhood struggles and the trauma of Partition to pursue his love for poetry in Bombay. He entered the Hindi film industry under filmmaker Bimal Roy, who assigned him his first hit song in *Bandini* and hired him as an assistant director. Guided early on by literary mentor Ahmed Nadeem Qassimi, Gulzar balanced his mainstream cinematic career with a lifelong devotion to serious literature. Over the decades, he achieved versatile success as a lyricist, director, screenwriter, and author, winning accolades such as an Oscar, a Grammy, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and the Padma Bhushan. His personal life included a deep bond with actress Meena Kumari, whose poetry he published, and a marriage to actress Rakhee, with whom he shares a daughter, director Meghna Gulzar. Beyond adult literature and films, he created beloved children's works— such as the famous title song for The Jungle Book—and engaged in social work through educational NGOs. Honored with numerous awards and appointed Chancellor of Assam University in 2013, Gulzar remains a celebrated icon whose unique artistic voice continues to inspire generations. #Gulzar #Rekhta #UrduPoetry #HindiLiterature #IndianCinema

Syed Wali Mohammad, known as Nazeer Akbarabadi, is a prominent figure in Urdu literature. Born in Delhi in 1735, he built a quiet life in Agra as a teacher, choosing a simple living over wealthy royal courts. While other poets of his time focused strictly on classic romance, Nazeer expanded Urdu verse to include everyday life. He wrote clearly about common people, street festivals, and daily routines. Although best known as a poet of the masses, he also wrote excellent traditional ghazals. Passing away in 1830, Nazeer gave Urdu poetry a relatable voice that is still valued today. #NazeerAkbarabadi #UrduPoetry #UrduLiterature #Ghazal #PeoplesPoet

1400 years ago, when Imam Hussain sent a letter asking for help in the battle of Karbala, his friend Rahib Siddh Datt and a fearless caravan of Mohyal Brahmins didn't hesitate. They marched straight from Punjab to Iraq to stand by his side. Though they arrived too late to save him, they didn't just pack up and go home. Driven by grief and anger, they stayed and fought bravely to avenge his death, with many giving up their own lives on the battlefield. Fast forward to today, and their descendants, The Hussaini Brahmins, still honor this shared grief and observe the mourning of Muharram. A striking piece of history that proves real brotherhood knows no boundaries. #HussainiBrahmin #Karbala #Muharram #History #MohyalBrahmins #UntoldStories #Rekhta
