Sometimes you just watch a player and know he has it. Rory Finneran certainly has it. It’s been an incredible couple of weeks for the 18-year-old, who made his competitive Ireland U21 debut against Slovakia and immediately looked at home in the middle of the park. He carried that form into the Kazakhstan game before producing an outstanding display against England on Tuesday night, picking up an assist and running the show alongside Devaney. Watching the two of them together, you couldn’t help but think we could be looking at the future of Ireland’s midfield for the next 15 years. And the frightening thing? Finneran is still eligible for the next TWO U21 campaigns. That’s how young he is Today, I watched him make his return to Notts County against Oxford United, coming on at half-time, and he was simply a level above. In possession, out of possession, his passing, his ability to receive the ball on the front foot and drive his team forward, his defensive positioning and awareness. Everything about his performance screamed quality. And then came a moment he’ll never forget. A stunning left-footed strike in the 91st minute to score his first senior goal. Despite County losing 2-1, I came away from that second half thinking about just how outstanding this young lad could become. To be just 18 years of age and look that comfortable, never mind dominate a game at League One level, is exceptional. Ireland and Newcastle United have a top talent on their hands, and we’re only scratching the surface of what Rory Finneran can become.

Mason Melia has finally made his Tottenham Hotspur debut and what an introduction!🇮🇪 Melia came on in the 67th minute for Spurs’ U21s against West Ham, and within three minutes he had his first goal in Spurs colours. A brilliant moment for the young striker after what’s been a frustrating first few months at the club due to a back injury.

What an incredible way for Alex Murphy to mark his Kaiserslautern debut! Murphy came off the bench in the 65th minute of their DFB-Pokal clash away to Mannheim, slotting in at left wing-back with the game still level at 0-0. The tie went all the way to extra-time and, in the 120th minute, Murphy fed Ibrahim Kanaté, who smashed the ball into the top corner to send Kaiserslautern through to the next round. The scenes afterwards were absolutely incredible. The Kaiserslautern end erupted, while Mannheim supporters certainly didn’t take the late winner well, with fans running onto the pitch and causing havoc after the goal, as seen in the video. But what an occasion for Murphy, making his debut and producing the game-winning assist in the 120th minute.

Absolutely disgraceful treatment of Irishman Aaron Doran from Inverness. For Doran to be at the Scottish club for the last 13 years to then be treated like this is beyond a joke. Wishing Aaron all the best, I’m sure something will work out for him!💚

What a Roma debut for Evan Ferguson - 4 goals and an assist! 🟡🔴 The dream start for Ferguson in Italy and despite the opposition not being anything special it will do his confidence a world of good. Just the start for the striker. The fourth goal is different class!🇮🇪
